  • 5800 is so cheap might even go with STI

smallest Rawland is too big for her (and me). I am thinking surly .. 42cm has the perfect stack and reach. Question is which one? And disc or no disc .. I want as little maintenance as possible.

  • 29'ers are just for lazy people

I can confirm at least one case where this is true.

  • I has Rival chainset, shifters, derailleurs for sale. 165mm cranks 2x10. £175. If any use.

  • Crosscheck with mini-vs and and an 8 speed IGH.

Well this is the functional thread, non?

  • Ridgeback hybrid.>

    what is this front rack?

  • Smallest crosscheck is tad big for her .. 42cm in 26" and 650b works in Surly; Disc/non disc trucker and straggler

  • and what is this front rack? :)

  • @amey 650b 42cm straggler reach differs by 8mm compared to 42 crosscheck

DC rides a crosscheck and has the same saddle height as that geo chart - if sizing is a problem on the CC or straggler it will be the reach I reckon.

  • amey, if you have any interest in an enve CX canti fork... let me know.. can supply trp cx9's too

  • she needs 365 to 370mm reach and 500 to 510mm stack; We tried fit and find but it only does proper roadie bikes ..

Yeah 42cm 700c surly frames are too big.

@rogan Could be keen on CX9's .. enve too bling to lock around .. nothing carbon on this one.

  • 26 ain't dead. Well neither is HMV but I wouldn't buy shares.

  • Look at CAADX disc frame in 44cm, put 650b 42mm and you'll get a BB height as low as a road bike with no toe overlap.

    Reach 369mm, stack 512mm.

  • But for über cheap, Kaffenback 2 in small will actually work great, plop 650b and bingo, cheapo disc commuter/roadie to tie her over.

  • CRC has 69 27.5" tires and 287 26" tires.
Virtually none of the 27.5s are road ready.
For the equivalent 26, 27.5s are almost twice as much.
That's just one seller's stats, but it says that although 27.5 is trending, 26 still rules the cheap seats.

  • At the moment Schwable is releasing 650b version of the Marathon Plus, Kojak and Durano, three really good reasonably priced tyres.

  • It's a bike, not an investment. £ for £, 26" still wins. I'm all for 650, but the majority of people wouldn't notice if it was laser beamed into their retinas.

  • The frontrack is from Surly. The one on the Salsa Vaya has custom-painted black sliding/offset plates. Much better looking with a black rack.
    see here: http://surlybikes.com/parts/cargo/surly_rack

  • But for über cheap, Kaffenback 2

Good idea. I'm always surprise they're not more popular.

@amey - what's her current bike? A steel TFG something? Have you thought about just coldsetting the rear and using a hub gear?

It should be the cheapest option as you'll just need the hub, spokes and a shifter. Also for commuting hub gears are great.

  • I don't really follow.

If I was to invest effort/time building a road bike and the choice is between 27.5" and 26" why wouldn't I choose 27.5"?

  • Straggler 650b seems like an option if we went with building it as opposed to get OTP. Which disc brakes though?

  • Planet X is cheaper tho.

    BB7 road or TRP Spyres.

  • Such a good video, I'd love to be able to go for a ride like that
