  • Well we'll have to see I guess - I highly doubt the possible minor discrepancies between Open Pros and the other 'far superior' rims in my price bracket would be in any way prohibitive for the riding I'm doing, but if I come back in a few days with them having spontaneously pringled under the slightest effort, then I'll concede that I should have got TB14s. If they last thousands of miles from sensible useage like I'm expecting them to do (and like they have done for many others for many many years) I'll be perfectly happy with them, irrespective of them being over-hyped, shoddily pin jointed, widly warped, wine drinking socialist, old-timer-but-also-new-and-now-worse-quality French tat ;)

  • Having them spontaneously pringle under you is in no way a reflection of the rim, that would be a reflection of the builder.

Dude, you really have taken this to heart haven't you?

All I have said is that I think there are better rims available, This is just my personal opinion - Je Suis Charlie!

Clearly I was unaware that you were after a french themed build, which of course Mavic fits in with perfectly.

I am in no way bashing Mavic Rims, Hell, I've been racing and riding on mavic rims off and on for the last 20 years and they have served me well during that time.

My Bad on the welded/pinned joint, But that hardly warrants the accusation of being a liar? I don't build a lot of Open Pros or Open Sports as the current market doesn't seem to call on them much. Again, the other accusation you have made is completely unfounded, thats kind of a random attack after I clearly just voiced my opinion, An apology for your unsubstantiated criticism might be nice.

  • I fear a lot of my hyperbole was lost in that reply. You never can do sarcasm over the internet.

Forgive me, but you suggested that the "old-timer" rims had multiple superiors, had "terrible" joins, weren't particularly true, and that quality had decreased. If that's not bashing Mavic rims they I don't know what is! I do apologise for calling you a liar, it certainly wasn't the best choice of phrase, but it was quite a major mistake to make for someone using that as a point of contention, so felt it was worth pointing out. Also, if you "don't build a lot of Open Pros", then "all of the open pros I have built lately" is a bit of a misnomer.

And I also apologise for the criticism of your character and business, and of course you're perfectly entitled to your opinion, but it wasn't totally unsubstantiated considering you did turn out to be wrong on at least one of the points that was initially presented as fact. Unfortunately you caught me on a slow day at work, so I got to craft a barbed reply rather than letting it be water under the bridge.

Plus, they're my lovely new wheels, I'm bound to be a bit defensive aren't I... :)

Nevertheless, the popcorn can go away and we'll call a truce!
