Is it possible to remove the "barb" from a hydraulic brake hose and re-use it, or do I need to get a new one?

What's the general consensus on Surly hubs? I've heard a few stories about them not being the best quality.
-
• #65679
The newest (Ultra new?) ones are pretty good, I've got/had a few and they've been excellent. The older ones with the angular contact bearings were a bit shit unless you knew what you were doing and the bearings weren't always easy to come by.

Yes, the new ultra ones. Good to know thanks.

26.6mm inline seatposts, in silver. Length unimportant. Where to find?
CRC have Thomson posts in the right size, but only in black.

i find them uncommunicative and overly sensitive to the slightest whiff of criticism

I need a radiused shift lever boss cover (!)
(shimano part y64338101).
I don't know if they are sided, but if they are I need a drive-side one.
Does anyone have one in a part box they wouldn't mind passing on for cheaps/nuffink, or do I need to start trawling bike shops? -
• #65684
Is it weird that this is the only thread in M&M that's almost exclusively about bikes?
-
• #65685
I'm guessing you've found this already: http://bicikli.de/shop/SHIMANO-spare-part-Y-64338101-SL-6208-LEVER-BOSS-COVER-FOR-BRAZED-ON-A-TYPE-643-3810-1-Shimano-Code-Y64338101_3

I hadn't. Hmmm. Not 100% sure that one is radiused (sjs has non-radiused ones in stock too).
-
• #65687
It's got the right part number....
-
• #65688
true. I'll do some bike shop trawling/people pestering over the weekend and order it next week if all I find is failure. it'll probably be cheaper just to buy some other shifters and steal the part I need from them :/
(if anyone has some downtube shifters they want rid of for less than a tenner...) -

does anyone know what the law is for old petrol bikes with pedals? Is there a power rating or cc below which you don't need a license like a <25kw electric thing?
something like a mobylette
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Mobylette_AV33_1959_-_Flickr_-_mick_-_Lumix.jpgcan it be ridden without license and insurance?
can't google- too stupid.

can it be ridden without license and insurance?
No. It can't even be used without a Licence. If you have a provisional licence, you need to pass CBT before riding a moped (which is what a Mobylette is, legally) on the road. If you have had a full car licence since the last millennium, you can ride a moped without taking any other tests.

Possible but pointless, they ain't pricey.
-
• #65692
It was availability rather than price. Will pop down and try Bike and Run or Shorter Rochford.
-
• #65693
It's a bit of a pain anyway, easy to damage them trying it.

tryin' this again:
Old SunTour XCD touring group, complete with old condor bike I just bought to do up for the ladyfriend®
Snog, marry, avoid?
I have no idea how good/valuable SunTour is really, though I understand some of it has a cult following...
-
• #65695
If it's the 6000 stuff, it was considered high end back in the day.
Regardless, if it still works, use it.
Somewhat related, some guys from the old days of Suntour have started SunXCD - anyone know of or have seen actual components from them? -
• #65696
Ah, ta.
I think it's 6000, not got it in my mitts yet. Going to strip everything and get the frame re-done.
Was thinking something more modern with Ergos and have most everything bar the wheels and some other wee bits but then if it's good kit might keep it on. Could always trade it for a nice set of wheels if ever.there's a set of SunXCD touring wheels on fleabay-look classy with high flanges, about £275 beans http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sun-Tour-SunXCD-700C-Wheelset-Road-Bike-Front-and-Rear-Wheels-presta-/201151800195?pt=UK_sportsleisure_cycling_bikeparts_SR&hash=item2ed594e383

Yeah looks good, anyone here tried them yet?

Looking for a packable waterproof (or waterproofish) jacket. Any recommendations?
-
• #65699
The Berghaus one is good. I don't know the model but it's about £160. Packs down to about the size of one of those big candles they have in gastropubs.
