    That said, I packed an insulated vest on an audax into North Wales just in case... temperature was above 20C the entire day...

  • From my limited experience on the few longer rides I believe:

    schlepping large bags on every ride > repacking due to weather etc. for every ride.

  • I used to carry quite a bit of food, but stuff you can get at petrol stations is a lot better now, I probably would only carry a few energy bars.
    I also used to have a great big piece of bubble wrap to unfold and sleep in /on. I think that was my best carry. That and all the foul weather stuff that I didn't need on warm days. Always nice at night to have a full winter wardrobe to slip into. And a spare pair of shorts, which made a nice pillow. Even after they had been worn.
