That issue was meant to affect 800 units. Not sure if it was an issue with 1000s.
The only time my 800 went unrecoverably mental was after 30 hours constant use.Now that I have an 800 that means I have to bring the 705 for the last 6h hours of my 600km's?

Depends how fast/slow you ride 600ks. My 800 was fine for all the 24hr races I did and most of the long training rides I did last year. Like I said, it only died once and that was during my longest ride ~30hours.

No. To be safe you could stop the ride and start a new ride. Split it in 2 rides. Sometimes they will throw a fit if a ride is longer than a couple hundred miles.
You can then use an online tool, to combine the 2 rides into 1 seamless ride.
