  • Below -5C you don't need to struggle with staying warm while soaking wet. Its easier.

  • Double some up? Defeet Armskins over something else?

  • So or this winter, in England (rough temperatures ridden in: 0º to 7º (though I suspect I've been out in the negative temperatures too).
Top: Gabba, generic underlayer (I have 5 of varying thickness), maybe armwarmers.
    Legs: Sportful Bib tights.
Feet: normal socks, DHB shoes, BBB HardWear shoes.
Head: Cheap Aldi skullcap, and Buff-type thing if needed.
    Hands: Sealskin Yellow things.
In the back pocket- Arm- warmers (if not worn), Rapha RaceCape.

I had one unpleasant ride where the wind-chill really took it out of me, but otherwise, pretty perfect.

  • Think I've only had one ride this winter where I didn't completely misjudge what clothing to wear, resulting in either boiling alive or coming home so cold I thought I had frostbite.

Feet have at least been consistently frozen solid. Will be glad to get the feeling back in June sometime.

  • bought some Seal Skinz Winter gloves from Evans for £30, first purchase of their stuff, will see how it goes.. :-)

  • after this morning's freshness, happy to confirm that the Seal Skinz Winter gloves are indeed waterproof,

.. as for my Chrome shoes / merino wool sock / shorts combination - this was a little more wet!

  • Wore my gabba in the rain for the first time this morning.

    Positives:
    Warm
    Waterproof
    Breathable
    Awesome

    Negatives:
Large portion of remaining wardrobe rendered obsolete

Hah, yeah Gabba tend to do that after the leap of faith from wearing a handful of layers to just one.

  • do not trust

  • i fear change

  • only one layer?

  • okay, i buy

  • Gabba is seriously fucking good. Cannot believe I took so long to buy one.

  • I know.

    It feels like cheating.

  • I don't own one yet because nothing says World Champion Cyclist like free pub crawl t-shirts.

  • What about your bottom half?

  • yep gabba 2 ruled this morning. Upsetting that it still isnt dry yet for the ride home :(

  • Not one layer. A thin mesh base layer between me and it to channel away the manliness.

  • Maybe it needs reproofing? Mine was dry within minutes

  • I use the cheapo dhb zero bib tights. They are "water resistant" but not that much. Does a pretty good job of keeping legs warm despite letting some dampness through.

  • its brand new worn for about a week. Iam hoping its just too cold in my office. Only seems to be the cuffs and sleeves that are still wet

Yep, that about sums it up. In my experience though, it won't stay as waterproof for more than a few washes unless you're very careful. The good news is that even when soaked you will still be just the right temperature.

  • Cold wash them with Nikwax should sort it out.

  • Nikwax, I've heard of this stuff but never paid attention. If I wash some nanoflex warmers I have that have lost their waterproofness in it, will they be restored?

Also, are you talking about the tech wash?
