  • Probably too busy - he's got a tandem to fix for a start :)

  • Needs thicker tyres

I think I may be able to fit 40c, the chainstay clearance will dictate this, being the narrower one (I wanted straight stays). But the 35c on the picture are to remain for now (although another model, these are very cheap ones, they are not fantastic... puncture resistance, weight, they are a bit sticky, etc...), and should accommodate mudguards too...

  • Very special bike! Saddle is great and different. ;-) Bigger tyres and panniers though... Good job.

  • Salsa cowbells would be good I think

  • I'll second that. Cowbells would look perfect. Beautiful bike, nice work fella.

  • First time ever I try non traditional drops... I don't dislike the look of these particular ones, although I generally prefer classic shape...

    Bar look fine, you just need to rotated the bar down, and the levers up, bit like this, this way you can actually put a bit of weight on the drop without feeling like you're trying to hold on for dear life;

  • Hey Loic, this looks absolutely ace. Glad you're so happy with it.

A few pages back you asked about panaracer pasela in 38mm. I can confirm they do exist - I have a pair on my crosscheck. I bought them from sjs cycles and they were sold as a 37 but say 38 on the sidewall. They roll good for such a big tyre. It's probably worth giving sjs a call.

I like the fact they angle outside, like randonneur bars, but I looked at Salsa page and although they come in several width they seem only available in a 126 drop, not enough for me... Anyway, I have no more money to spend on that bike for now (BTW, LES the lopro is still for sale...)

Actually I'm not far off what you show here on that picture, the angle of the photo suggests otherwise though.

    Thanks!

Good to know... I suspect I've reach the limit with the rims I'm using though... Not sure I could / want go more than 35c now I've gone for this wheelset...

    Thanks, finally someone who understand!!

    Bigger tyres and panniers though

Bigger tyres, possibly in the future (see above), but mudguards and panniers, certainly soon!

  • Speaking of mudguards I'm not sure what to do...

The all metal ones everybody seems to love at the moment are a bit pricey to my liking... Also I'm not sure something angular would look that great on that bike.

Weirdly, looking around, full plastic ones in black gloss seems a good option, I don't want them too heavy either... And I'd like to avoid plastic ironmongery for the stays fixing to the eyelets, ideally.

I considered these at some point after seeing them in a shop...

  • PDW, VO or Berthoud; Plastic guards are not necessarily lighter ..

  • not feeling the saddle or the bars but everything else is really on point!

  • Plastic guard tend to be heavier due to steel stay.

Have a look at the PDW full metal fender in 45mm that'll fit nicely, the grey colour will also match your rims nicely.

Freshtripe have a black hammered Velo Orange guard too.

  • I am in love with that bike, almost remind me of the Bridgestone Xo-1.

Will check my part bin as I may have an Ultegra 6700 long cage derailleur that'll match the bike nicely.

  • does he have his own signature on the frames he makes?
    for later identification I mean

  • His own brand / stainless steel logo(s) brazed onto the frame, and serial numbers were stamped onto BB shell and fork steerer.

  • Freshtripe have a black hammered Velo Orange guard too.

I like the sound of that... And I know from when I had them on the Mercian (in natural alloy finish) that they were quite light...

  • ah I thought the logo was just 'yours'. Stupid me :)

    which serial number you've got?

  • Logo was designed by a friend of mine, Sarah from Ottosauhaus in Berlin:
    http://ottosauhaus.de/

I don't even know the frame number! I need to check... I remember it has the year of built in it, but not the rest...

  • almost remind me of the Bridgestone Xo-1

Just googled that thanks... If I went into the trouble of changing the bars, this would be something I'd be tempted to try!

  • yeah I remember reading that and that actually confused me. As I thought he already had his own logo and that was to be your custom one.

    Very nice looking logo btw

  • That bike remind me of this;

  • What happened to sized 58&60?
