Released 1979. Banned until 2008 in Torbay.
Aberystwyth thought they'd banned it, but when they came to lift the ban in 2009 someone worked out they'd not actually banned it.

That doesn't mean that it's any less dumb.
It's a bit farfetched to extrapolate from whatever equivalence you seem to infer.
Maybe there are a few more geopolitical / societal factors to consider. The advancement of developing countries. A few decades of war. That sort of thing.

i would imagine more and more people share that view .did the christians kill anyone on release of monty pythons "life of brian" ? i think it was banned in the cinema for a short time .....
