  • I think you can still order Hope hub/open pro wheel builds from a few places.

You're in Perth right? Maybe look out for DT swiss rims (rr440 i think) laced to dt hubs as factory builds - pricey but nice. May be cheaper in Aus?? There's loads of options, check out the wheel thread. Given the clearances of your frame, I'm not sure modern wide rims with 25c tyres would be ideal - worth checking they'll fit.

There's nothing wrong with SRAM - just needs a longer rear derailleur cable and housing than usual for smooth shifting and you need precise tension for the FD to work properly - inline adjusters needed. It's totally personal preference though. Apex or Rival or 5800 105 won't hamper your performance. I personally like SRAM for the hood shape and I know how to set it up.

  • ah didn't think of that, I know Open Pros work with 25s as I've been running them for a while now. Doesn't leave room for much else, though! I'd be tempted to get black TB14s, though not if the braking surface is going to get rubbed off straight away. Looks shite. It is tempting to get a set of Reynolds or Zipps when I can get them at wholesale ;-)

SRAM shifters look very comfortable, much nicer than Shimano and Campy too. And I do know that SRAM Apex brake caliper works with my fork, might not be the case for other groupsets due to the short drop. I'm using 105 on a borrowed road bike at the moment and find the shifters are too big for my hands. Can't get enough power when braking, even with them adjusted.
