• Thats basically what I was trying to say.

I bet, like me, 99% of those that have Access to Power Balance data. Spent 10 mins looking at it. Thought 'thats interesting' then never gave another thought again.

  • Are they the ratcheted things where each leg is independently pedaling?

  • This pretty much describes most bike data until you pay someone or something (TP) to tell you what it means and what to do about it :)

  • Yes. Much loved by the slvls crowd.

  • Not really. If you make more power over a certain time, you're better. Simples.

  • I wear calf guards when racing. I clearly need me some of that PowerCrank action.

  • Current National 12hr Champion (299 miles) is a big fan of them.

  • He races fixed so he's clearly a weirdo.
Annoyed, I think I might miss another National 12hr this year, if I do PBP. :(

  • Ah well, Tops is going to win it anyway

  • What just like last year and the year before?

  • Is he a former slvls?

  • Pretty much as far from a slvls as you can get. Did 35,000 miles last year pretty much all on fixed on 90"+

  • 23/12/2014 CTL was 50, 07/01/2015 CTL is 89.

Based on what has been said before about trying to stick to a rise of ~5/week this is obviously a bit too fast a ramp, but based on the PMC it should level off shortly to the 5 or so level.

This ok do we think, or should I back off a little?

  • Nah press on. Life will force you to back off soon enough!

  • I used to have a pair, got them to test in the lab. They're pretty mad - quite difficult to get out the saddle. And also pretty worthless for cycling training - good for triathletes as they can help improve hip flexors/stride though.

  • Correctly cabled front brake

Only "correct" if you're a filthy foreigner.

  • filthy foreigner

    Just my sinister, left-hand side...

  • I'm not a 'filthy' foreigner then?

  • 336 TSS for a 57 mile ride today, ate much Pizza.

However, sounds high - case of indoor test result not being representative of actual outdoor FTP?

I thought it was a rubbish test at the time, thinking about it.

  • Not possible at all.

Indoor power<outdoor. I just use outdoor best and know TSS from trainer rides will be worth less but actually the work is quality.

  • Indoor test put ftp at 257, interestingly the Strava power curve feature puts it at 270 - higher than the rest by a fair margin, and based on all my riding not just trainer.

If I altered ftp to be 270 it would move the TSS value to one that "feels" more likely.

But it won't be based on the test, just software estimating things- which may be more accurate in this case though I suppose.

  • I estimate my indoor FTP to be around 250w. Most recent (not very recent) outdoor figures suggest the 270w Ive been at for ages.

As I cant face reducing my FTP in TrainerRoad. I'm getting epically low TSS scores. The 20w makes a massive difference.

  • A ~10% (typically) lower "FTP" is pretty common on the turbo vs the road.

    @Smallfurry TSS is calculated as:
    TSS = (sec x NP x IF)/(FTP x 3600) x 100

So decreasing your FTP would increase your TSS - as the IF/FTP portion of the equation would be higher

  • Exactly. My FTP is 270 in TrainerRoad. Totally wrong.

I find turbo training incredibly tough. Its like climbing, only worse. I simply dont have the right muscle type for constant resistance. Plus I seem to have skipped base training and jumped into build. As its less time consuming. Which isnt helping.

My NPs seem to be increasing though. So its not all bad News.
