It's a solid bike. I've trained on it, I've "raced" on it, I've commuted on it. If there's one in your size going cheap, buy it.
You can fit mudguards, you can fit a rack. -

how heavy we talking? Heavy that you notice? Used to ride a Specialized Allez which rocked in at 10/11 kilos albeit with aluminium frame. Much heavier than that?
Also, hear a lot of talk about using it for cyclo-cross etc. does it feel like a mtb or still have a road/track feel?
Getting seriously convinced after reading this thread...

Just buy the bike and trash it.
-
• #4530
It's from china(or taiwan) and we all know chinese quality. as ed above said you're going to trash it.
-
• #4531
Well the frame alone comes in at 2.3kg (no fork) so it's that heavy. I notice mine being heavier than some bikes I have, but lighter than others. Depends what you put on it.
I'd say it has sort of CX/"relaxed road" geometry...perhaps others on here could be more scientific.

• #4532
Oh and I've used mine for commuting, triathlons, whole days of audax, pulling a trailer with another biek on...you name it

Cheers Doppel.
Okay, maybe pushing my luck on the 'Pompino owners' thread but...
comparison with Kilo TT? I know Bikeforums.net have it pretty bad for the Kilo but what do people think here?
-
• #4534
this bike? http://www.cyclesmercier.com/geometry_tt.html
well the geometry isnt similar at all. Pompino is sort of winter/cx -fixie while that kilo tt seems to be a track bike.
-
• #4535
there is no big suprises with pomp. It feels like a regular, average and unsuprising bike, and with a light fork pretty good.
-
• #4536
Yeah, that bike. Very different but I'm looking for a frame to use in a singlespeed build so I can cycle around london and still be fairly nimble IE more road than MTB. Is the Pomp gonna be overkill?
-
• #4537
Ride one.
-
• #4538
Do you want wide tyres, mudguards and a rack on your bike?
-
• #4539
Or v brakes /disc brakes ?
-
• #4541
(l)
-
• #4542
Not overkill. They handle great on the road.
-
• #4543
Is the Pomp gonna be overkill?
No, buy it and trash it.
-
• #4544
Get the 420gram carbon fork from aliexpress.
-
• #4545
mudguards and a rack would be nice but I'm not fussed about wide tyres. Probably kit it out with 28s
-
• #4546
Alright, if Dan gets back to me, it may be a new pompino build In the garage... New year, new frame it seems! Cheers to all for the advice
-
• #4547
You've made a horrible mistake
-
• #4548
Sorry, typo.
You've made a wise choice.

• #4549
Can you link me this, because reasons.
Also Pomps are fucking fun.
Its not even that heavy. -

This is the one I bought and installed on my OmegaCX http://www.lfgss.com/comments/12003502/ Link to Aliexpress:

Yeah it's ace. Bad points are that the paint is (or at least used to be) a bit rubbish.
Ah. not really.
