That reminds me of the day I had to explain why someone was getting paid less hours of overtime than they thought as working 'from eight to nine, ten, eleven and twelve,' was not five hours.
It culminated in me having to find a clock and manually move the hands round to show that from eight to twelve was only four hours. I still got a blank stare.
