  • this clown

^ US cultural high water mark, Ziggy as modern-day Falstaff, etc, etc.

Seriously though... The Wire was that good. And that was probably my favourite season.

  • Clown was meant in a hugely affectionate way. I loved Season 2, many people didn't though which I find puzzling. Poor Sobotkas.

  • the guest. best film john carpenter never made.

  • Just seen Birdman. I really enjoyed it,the other half not so much. She rated the acting but found the self referential nature frustrating and the jazz drumming annoyed her. The film asked lots of questions with a wry sense of humour.

  • yes it's great!

  • I don't agree with the list but there are some great films worth checking out: http://vimeo.com/113355414

  • funny Mrs EB didn't like Birdman either - in fact she hated it

  • Posted here a month ago * yawn *

    ;-)

  • Birdman then. Amazing editing, acting and script, and I loved that jazz drumming, but I wasn't convinced by the ambiguity of the ending.

It's such a clever film all the way through, but then I was left a little confused by the point that was being made. And because everything throughout the rest of the film is laden with meaning and foreshadowing, I expected or wanted some kind of closure or ending you could easily interpret, but maybe that's just me.

My other half broke the trend and enjoyed it.

  • The Babadook. Babadon't bababother

  • @EB I ignored it but put it back on my list after Mark Kermode's glowing review in his best of the year programme. I'm in two minds now

Also finally watched Gone Girl last night after all the praise on here, I didn't really enjoy it, kept thinking I'd seen it all before

  • @H0B0 still to see their top two picks and some interesting other stuff I'd overlooked on there, thanks

  • 3 kings - First Iraq war soldiers go after Kuwait gold and get more than they bargained for. Well old, well worth a watch and not a black/white as most MURICA movies about war.

Of men and horses - Strange Icelandic movie about a small village where horses are very important in life. Not much happening, if you like the dry wry Scandinavian humour you may enjoy.

Only lovers left alive - Jarmusch isn't a hurry with the plot, Swindon's role the focus on the two lovers makes it interesting to watch. Good if you have some patience and don't mind his style (visuals, 70s music, could hurry up a bit more)

  • i'd just like to remind everyone that mark fucking kermode is weekend-rockabilly-god-squadding cunt who probably enjoys smelling his own farts.

    happy christmans everyone!

  • Amaze... Has brightened up my sickly evening... Most 80s movie I've ever watched... <$2m budget... Incredz...

  • the most JC thing about THE GUEST:

  • 20 minutes into Dumb and Dumber To. I take back what I said about The Drop being my favourite film of 2014.

  • Enjoyed Locke

  • You forgot the soundtrack...

  • The Rover. Watch it.

The scenery is beautiful, there's some great landscape shots. Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson play their roles incredibly. I would have liked subtitles for about 25% of the film but that added to it in a positive way I think. I loved the way Pearce and Pattinson's relationship develops, it's very Walter White and Jesse Pinkman, in that Pattinson is an idiot, but Pearce needs him alive, and the ending with Pattinson and the actual ending are both a little heartbreaking. Well worth a watch, cheers to @cake for the recommendation.

  • Oh and the soundtrack is equal parts haunting and wonderful.

  • Ex_Machina looks rad, don't think it's out yet.

  • I think it's just you.. :-)

It's a wonderful film. So good in so many ways. There is no point. It's pure film making for the joy of it. The joy of writing. The joy of acting. The joy of camera work etc. etc. It's the most perfect film I've seen in a long, long time. It's sat with me for days and I'm going to see it again at some point. Not for any kind of closure but just because it was a wonderful 90 minutes of filming.

  • I did love it, really enjoyed the experience of watching it, but I just left the cinema trying to get my head around it. The more I think about it the more impressive it was.

  • Whiplash - wow.

Vern Schillinger from Oz conducts jazz.
