1952 Raleigh Super Lenton – 4 speed FM hub – 23”

This is my 1952 Raleigh Super Lenton that I’m selling to help fund our wedding. I’ve always loved the clubman scene and for my tastes the Lentons and Clubmans were the archetypal bikes of that time. I’ve loved having this bike; it took me a few years to find one in such original spec and it’s been a pleasure to ride and own. There’s loads of info on the Lentons here, thanks to Sheldon.

I’ve covered around 500 miles on this bike, mostly general pottering, a few commutes and some clubruns and I have to say, every ride brought a smile to my face.

The bike still has it original paint and transfers and nearly all the components are original, it even has the remains of the silver grey grips left on the bars. The original celluloid mudguards had to be replaced (with Bluemels Lightweights) as they had cracked; I’ve also replaced the tyres with Pasela PTs. Vince at Colwood Wheel Works has just serviced the FM hub and it’s running very smoothly. 1st gear requires some delicate trigger manipulation but this should ease as the cable beds in.

Cables and brake pads have just been changed and the bike has just been serviced at BC. I have added a retro LED front light and a brooks saddle bag, which, along with the Coloral double bottle cage, are included in the sale.

The one issue with the bike is that the toggle chain is slightly ‘nicked’. It’s been like this since I’ve owned it and doesn’t affect the gear change, but I thought I’d mention it as it’s the rarer quick release link.
