I guess there isn't right or wrong answer to my question, but is £170 / hour for a seemingly well known tattoo artist fair?
-
• #9581
yes, no, maybe?
are you willing to pay the money, as you think the quality of the work is worth it? -
• #9582
Do you like what he do?
Money isn't something I think about in term of value for money when getting a tattoo that'll be on your body forever (unless you choose the painful way out).

I like his work very much, otherwise I wouldn't have made contact with in the first place... I guess it's not like having a haircut that can be done on the cheap sometimes... best start saving up then.

How much does a tattoo this size cost? Give or take. Going to look for a good artist but need to make sure I can actually afford it.

No idea, just something I saw whilst dicking around the internet, I don't even like it that much, just thought it was an interesting style.

how many hours is it/what size is it?

Asking it for myself. So I hoped someone knows. Need to know how much is sort of normal, wish to get an upper arm piece but I don't have a tattoo and most people I know that do have tattoo's either got them for free/cheap because they know some artist or are happy with terrible tattoo's and got them either drunk or just don't care about them.

for palm size with a decent artist you're looking at £100 to £150

I haven't decided yet just made initial contact with him see when he'll be in London again and he told me his hourly rate... I probably would want sth a little larger than a palm size on my leg, so maybe a couple of hours? Guess it also depends how fast the artist works too? Rob who did my first ever tattoo saI'd it'd be a couple of hours and he managed to get it done know just under 1.5 hour.

palm size is usually around a couple of hours, of course depending on loads of factors like colour and detail.
£170 is crazy expensive. £100 an hour is the most expensive I've seen. -

Most tattoo artists worth their salt charge by the piece to not rip themselves off. Something that would take an inexperienced tattooer 2 hours to do will only take an experienced tattooer 1.5 hours, for instance. Makes sense to charge either a higher hourly rate or charge by the piece. If he's a travelling artist expect to pay a bit more also.

it's this guy Noon

not traditional by any means but I really like his style, guess I am also, in a way, paying for his time to design the tattoo for me... hummm...
-
• #9594
Yeah I mean, if it's just under a couple hours worth of work then you could expect to pay over the odds if the artist is in high demand.

I'm really liking Noon's tattoos.

Think I'll go ahead with it, Let's hope he can get what I want done in a couple of hours... and I have got until July to save up... so no more takeaway for 2015.

I'm new to tattoos so forgive my ignorance. Many of my mates are heavily tattooed but none of them are particularly happy with what they have as they had them done when they were younger with not so much expendable income so I can't really ask them for advice. My wife just got tattooed in Florida last week and although i was tempted to get started then I figured I'd wait until I had more options back here and someone I could continue to visit if I was happy.
Can anyone recommend any tattooists in London (north London preferably) who specialise in traditional? I have a few ideas what I would like but would also need quite a bit of creative input.
I know this is a general question but a lot of you guys seem to know your stuff so thought I would ask.
Also, has anyone visited the Ink Lounge in Palmers Green? They look fairly decent and have visiting guest artists but I haven't seen much said about them on the internet.

Yeah, let me find an artist first. Need one that can actually do what I want and that proves to be a bit difficult. I'm thinking about going to tattoo shows to check them out in real life.

Message from a mate of mine, Matt Lodder on FB: 'PR Friend of mine is looking for "a sexy tattooed couple" to appear in a video for a sex toy brand. Shoot is paid. Message me if interested'.
Feel free to DM me if you like.
Looks nice! That is certainly a proper cankle at the moment.
