I'm in the process of restoring some used bb7s to some semblance of functionality again and progress is good. They're missing the bottom cable boot, the small one in the pic below. Are they necessary at all? Bike will be used for city commuting, no muddy cx stuff.
Yeah I get that they'll work without em just wondered if there's a special tendency with bb7s to suck up grime through the cable hole or why they even have that boot to begin with. Spyres on my other bike has no rubber boots. Maybe it's a personality test like using/not using condoms or something.
