Billie Fleming Tribute Ride

Any of the LLFGSS gang interested in taking part in this year long event?

Starting on 1st January 2015, a woman or group of women will ride the distance Billie Fleming cycled on that day in 1938, and so on, through every day of 2015 until 29,604 miles have been cycled over 365 days. Each day will be called a stage.

Apparently the organisers are still looking for women to take part. The ride on Jan 1 is 71 miles, starts in Westminster and ends at Mill Hill, so good for Londoners. I think the idea is to ride in the general area where Billie Flemming did her ride in 1938, which is a bit of a bugger, but I think I'm going to try to get involved when I can.

There's also a more reasonable date of Sunday, Feb 8 which starts in Kilburn and ends at the Royal Albert Hall (via Stains) which is 69 miles.

I read this as having to 81 miles a day for 365 days each and thought "bloody hell. I'm not surprised they're having issues getting women to take part". But on closer inspection I don't think that's the idea, is it? It's 29604 miles to be covered by all people, across all rides, right?

Yes, I think the idea is to have a ride happen everyday, which covers the same distance that Fleming would have ridden on that day in 1938, and they are looking for women to take part (or organise?) some of the rides.

Looks amazing - can't do the 1st one, but will definitely try to get organised along the way. What a fantastic idea!

I think I'm going to try and do one on 17 or 18 of Jan (or 25 at a push). Have contacted organiser to find out more details and will post on here when I know more / which one I'm doing- might be nice to get a bit of LLFGSS contingent

Have emailed Evans Cycles, Hendon re the ride on 8 February from Kilburn .

These are now Breeze rides so Evans aren't connected to them apparently.

The rides seem rather short, I'm sure Billie must have done longer distances herself. Hardly feels like it's worth it to schlep to Watford for a 30 miles ride. I think I'll go do laps of Greenwich park with the rest of the crazies.

Unless there's a heatwave I'm staying close to my radiators and blanket next weekend.
