I think putting 7900 on here is pretty awesome personally.
And if we are all honest it would be pretty ridiculous for you to leave a modern Dura-Ace group set lying around your house while you tried to find an old Campagnolo group for your new frame. -

It looks alright actually, I would put a silver seatpost on though.

Been riding it for the last two days, first chance to put pictures up of the first full build.
Seatpost is getting swapped around for something silver, and it's getting some Cinelli crits on it soon as well, possibly a Brooks if I can find a swallow/swift in black.
Also, still debating silver or black rims for new wheels. But aside from that, rides so SO nice.

id LEGOJ on a saddlebag so this should cut my stable down to my Condor and this.

Good to see it up and running Will, and to hear you're enjoying the ride. Looks good... really miss that frame.
Silver seatpost will definitely sort it out and probably help with other choices. Leaning towards the idea of silver rims, myself.
I've still got that colnago stem, y'know ;)
-
• #32
Very tempted by that stem, it's just a wee bit too long for me, need sub 100mm really.
And yeah, bit of a typo, great ride though.

• #33
What bars are they? I've got some crits I might consider swapping for...?
-
• #34
They're 3TTT Ergo bars, can't remember which model, got them from Planet X a while back. I've got some crits to go on it, just need a 26mm stem under 100mm to fit them.
-
• #35
Is it easy enough to find modern bars with a 26mm clamp for old cinelli quill stems? Cheers for the advice fella, I'm building up a 90s condor with 6700 ultegra at the moment....
-

Hmmm, been having a think today and definitely leaning towards getting a Brooks for this, would mean I can just pop a carradice on it and have a nice comfy tour at the drop of a hat.
People's thoughts on a black Swallow/Narrow B17? On the lookout for one if anyone's selling along with a fairly nice 27.2 silver seatpost.
-
• #37
I think you should go for a 7400 aero seatpost, I have a 7410 on my colnago and it looks pretty sweet as well

f****g awesome

Nicest Colnago I have ever seen

So, it broke my heart but the groupset was sold over summer because I was flat out broke.
However, this Christmas the buildup commences! I'm planning on the following -
-Ultegra 6800 groupset
-Ultegra 6800 wheelset
-Silver stem and seatpostThoughts on this? Debating a mavic wheelset instead, or alternatives if anyone has anything groovy around the £200 mark.

Ultegra will look great on this, if you can find a darker silver seatpost I think it will be spot on
-

I have a strong aversion to black rims with silver braking surfaces. Just looks cheap to me. Get something thats one color.
-
• #43
Indeed, probably going to go for a slightly cheaper wheelset over the winter, then upgrade in the summer.
Thinking these in silver might be nice?

Picked up a 6800 groupset, just waiting on the STI levers. Got some training wheels for winter, planning to go 6800 hubs/silver open pros for proper wheels when summer hits/for touring. Also got a Dura-Ace seatpost for it, that should sort out the finishing kit.
Apologies for shit pic, dark room. Will take some better ones when the STIs arrive.

So classy.
Cages? -

It's a nice frame, but I do fear it's too big if you still need to bring the hoods back when you already have such a short stem.
I also notice the seatpost was much further down 7 months ago, which makes me wonder which height is a more accurate representation of the one you usually use? -
• #49
Cage wise I've got some tortec ones for now.
Size wise, I was planning to put a longer stem on and compacts, I've got a 100mm and compacts on my Condor and it fits really nice, it's not so much about bringing the hoods back as the position of the hoods on the bars.
Back then the seatpost was waaaay too low down, current height is much more comfy/how it should be. I am however a fair bit t-rex with a slightly shitty neck so a larger frame with compacts brings the bars up high but not too far away.

Took it out for a spin this evening for the first time in far, far too long. I'd forgotten just how comfy/awesome it is.
I've had a bit of a re-think stem/bar wise after seeing how my Condor feels, turns out this just feels comfier. For some reason it's a little more stretched out, but I think the saddle position/angle makes it hella more comfy than the Condor. Bit of lower back pain but I'm stretching to sort that out and it's more ache than pain.
Anyhow, the plan is to get a 100mm stem and some compacts for it (just not a fan of how the hooks on the Noodles feel) and probably find a layback seatpost or fiddle around with the saddle position on the Condor. Oh, and actually ride it a damn sight more.
That's a great look.
Big fan of the new style Shimano cranks on steel frames.
