The things you can do with search

  • I took the exact search, minus the word "sweet" and entered the search and it returns all comments by me in the thread:

    https://www.lfgss.com/search/?q=type%3Acomment+type%3Aconversation+id%3A253146+authorId%3A47686&defaults=true

What am I missing? Or what are you doing?

  • argh. sorry, I was typing userID instead of authorID...

I do find it a bit cumbersome to have to find the numerical ID codes for threads and profiles instead of being able to type the words, but I guess it is more precise that way, I just end up with multiple tabs open to retrieve numbers to enable a search.

  • Wouldn't it be simpler to just have a Who posted in thread? function like before? That was quite handy at times.

  • Yes.

    This is planned.

But as with all of the search features and other things... first we need to build the support in and make it rock solid, then we need to make it available to the UI (even if it means typing into a box), and finally we get to work through iterations that improve upon the UI/UX until it's really easy to use.

It will probably end up being a people picker style thing, a simple @name in the search box or another input that does that.

  • Good stuff. I guess the answer to most questions is:

  • Blast from the past, what was that... '85? Indie charts were great then.

  • What would be the query to search all classifieds, and sort by newest first - not most recently but commented, but newest classified first.

    Thanks!

  • I knew you'd ask.

There isn't one yet, but I'm going to start it soon as I miss it too.

The best you can do at the moment is to search within a single forum, but what you're after is to search 2+ forums at a time, and to order by the creation date rather than the modified date. We don't yet have all of those switches, but I will loop back and pick them up soon.

  • Ok, no worries.

I've been trying to do forumid:548 sort:newest or with sort:date but neither sort by creation date, what's the query for creation date rather than modification?

  • I'd like that too so I can set up a search that shows all three polo forums...

We are having very low traffic in one of the subforums we use to organise the london league and I think that's because it's not a subforum anymore.

  • Multiforum I can add easily enough.

I'll be finishing the ignore feature shortly, so I'll add this afterwards.

  • Awesome, Cheers VB.

  • Multiforum search has been completed.

Here's an example that pulls back everything in all polo forums as one super-polo-forum:

    https://www.lfgss.com/search/?forumId=523&forumId=531&forumId=538&forumId=543&forumId=547

Or you could drag this to your bookmarks:
    Polo on LFGSS

  • I'm in the habit of ignoring everything in classifieds, once I've read the ad, having followed it if I want to come back to it later.

This saves me re-reading the same ads and makes it obvious when something new is posted.

The problem I have, is that my search is only retrieving the conversations in which I have posted a comment. I might be wrong, but I'm sure it was picking up everything before.

    I'm using "following:true forumid:549 forumid:548 sort:date".

Is this related to the glitch which has blanked out the Ignored Items page, or is there a term I can ad to the search string?

  • When you follow an item, any updates to the item should put it in your Following list.

However, if there are no updates after you follow, it won't appear in the list.

Is that what you are seeing?

  • Yes, obviously I'll have to change the way I do things. In the meantime, is it possible to retrieve what I'm missing?

I would go through my ignored list, but that's still blank: would it be straightforward for you to un-ignore everything from your end?

I appreciate you're busy and this isn't a high priority, so don't spend too much time on it.

  • sweet type:comment type:conversation id:253146 authorId:47686

I tried to run this search and no results found

    also tried
    banned type:comment type:conversation id:253146 authorId:47686

and still no results came up

what am i missing to get the search function to work?

    also tried

    tree type:comment type:conversation id:172777

  • I'm a tedious bore.

    No shit, Goldenballs.

  • Is this thread kind of orphaned now Microcosm is no longer active? I'm having issues searching for a word within a sub-forum. It times out after about 10s.

  • what i can't do is find anyone having used the word pallet or pallets and i'm sure i saw someone post something about pallets yesterday

  • Your a pallet

    https://www.lfgss.com/search/?q=Pallet+sort:date

First search pulled up only title matches, you need to edit the search options to untick the title match option and run it again.

  • ahhh the old untick trick

    cheers

  • Server Error

We're sorry, there was a temporary error when we tried to process your request.

The reason was: The search query took too long and has been cancelled

Click here to go back to the homepage.

I get this every time I try to search for something in classifieds that isn't a title search.

  • Yup me too, not just classifieds.

The default search is for "titles" and when I tick/untick to make it "comments", I get the same error.
