  • Nice, post more if you like? What camera / film?

Also I like that one @shinkuu_kiss, it's got a nice mood..

  • Its an Olympus OM2 mostly with a 23mm lens, with some crappy 200iso film I got for free!

  • just got a new body (om1n) after my old om2n broke a while ago. 200 fuji superior, 50mm om zuiko 1.8

  • Walked around luton for about 2 hours today, and not a single photo...

  • I keep meaning to shoot there. I think the key is to get high up somewhere. Lots of industrial/bleak stuff round there too.

  • Funny you should mention that haha, I was walking up on the top floor of a car park for ages! Looking around over the town.
Totally agree about it being industrial/bleak, I know there's a lot to be had here but I just couldn't pull the trigger on anything...

I'm staying at my dad's up here so might give it another crack later on (maybe even tonight...)

  • I almost did take one of two (possibly) homeless guys having an animated chat about the can of super strength lager one was holding, although one must of spotted my camera before I even tried to take a shot, just kept his eyes on me

  • Yeah, if someone is staring you down, AVOID. Would be good to go out late or really early with a tripod...

  • Went out for about half hour, took a couple of shots and whilst setting up the camera for one a pair of very angry dogs (staff and germen shepherd type one) ran over a little dirt mound to my right and headed straight for me. Barking like crazy at my feet I thought I was going to be bitten, fortunately the owner finally ambled over and calmed them down...

Also learnt the hard way that I need some separate light meter when shooting in low light. Downloaded some lightmeter app and tried a few different shutter speeds.

Also the cable shutter release I bought for my SP 500 doesn't seem to work/fit/maybe i've set it up wrong -.-

  • anyone interested in a mint Olympus OM1, with zuiko 50mm 1.8 + leather case? battery included, lightmeter works.

  • redscaled superia 400

  • I want to start scanning negatives myself using the DSLR, as the scans from most labs are so lacking. Anyone done this? I've seen loads of instructibles online and it looks pretty easy, just need a macro lens or extension tubes for a 50mm, a flash (got that) and some sort of holder and opaque acrylic for the film.
The results I've seen so far are on par, if not better than drum scans.

  • I did that, "ghetto style", before I had a scanner, just taping the negs to a clean window, taping a sheet of tracing paper (as a "diffusor") on a second window behind that, on an overcast day at noon-ish.
Did not have a macro, so wasted quite a bit of pixels. Never used a flash, not sure if that really helps much, or on the contrary creates reflections? I just used a tripod.
So basically yeah, this works well (not sure if better than proper drum scans, but it's good).

I guess the main issues are having a really flat negative and even lightness behind it.

  • Ugh. Ball ache. Need a film scanner, badly.

  • sure you don't mean flatbed scans?

The drum scans I've seen of decent film are far beyond anything I've seen come from a DSLR.

EG: 11.000 dpi DRUM SCAN from 35mm KODAK EKTAR 100 by CastorScan Scansioni Professionali - CastorScan Pr, on Flickr

  • Fuck me, that really is good..

    (also from https://www.flickr.com/photos/castorscan)

  • I'm going to get one of these film copier lenses/adaptors next month, as I don't own anything remotely capable of macro. The closest focusing lens I own is the awful 18-55 kit lens that seems to be out of whack.

On the other hand, a phone makes a rather compact light box :)

  • cheap extension tube + your sharpest lens?
I did this before I scored a macro lens for cheap and the results are no worse, just more annoying to make sure it's focused right

  • Righto, Epson v700 or Nikon Coolscan IV?

  • Nikon Coolscan IV. When you get that nice lady / man home and he / she sees a neg scanner, it'll be so worth it. It'll speak volumes about your quality as a photographer, your dedication to the craft, your suffering for voicing your inner creativity. Don't forget your white cotton gloves that's at the ready next to it.

With a flatbed, your just a dude with a flatbed.

(Or just get the better scanner, what do I know)

  • I've only just started dipping my toe into 35mm photography and now I'm reading about medium format and lusting after the delicious images that can be had.

stumbled across @edscoble on flickr haha, just by searching "medium format" and scrolling down

  • Hah, that was one temperamental camera.

  • Why did you stop using Flickr?
