  • Wittson make Ti frames

  • Van Nicholas Chinook

  • Enigma.

  • I'd go with Burls for this.

  • Which part of 1978?
If it was before June, I may have missed it 😩

    Much love xx

  • Dolan Prefisio - at £199 - what's it like as a frameset? Say in comparison to a 2005 Caad8?

  • Enigma have a very decent range, their stock geo is made in Taiwan I believe. Although Burls will be cheaper and custom geo made in Russia - I think.

  • I've done 10.oook on a Prefisio (bought as complete bike) - the bonus is the ability to ride 32c tyres or 25c with mudguards. I'm not sure if the caad8 2005 holds the same ability.

  • Hmm, very interesting Thuekr - thanks for the input. I'm thinking of swapping all the parts I have for a minimal outlay. I can't fit proper guards on the caad (23mm wheels, 25mm tyres) and the clip on sks I'm using are annoying as they keep moving and rubbing.

Does the Prefisio feel good to ride? As in, nimble or stable or sluggish?

  • I'm not sure if the caad8 2005 holds the same ability.

    Tight fit with 25mm.

  • I felt confident on the Sicilian twisty tarmac and on scandinavian gravel with bigger tyres as well. I think it's as average as a road frame can be in regard to pretty much everything.

  • Russian Titanium will make your balls fall off ...

  • Been thinking about building my second bike myself for the first time with the help of a friend and after some research I ended up with the two below potential builds:

What's your opinion? Is there anything I'm doing wrong/should change?

  • Keep in mind the FM066 and 069 are more expensive

  • Option B. But you could probably spend less and get better wheels... Check the wherls thread

  • caad10 option; as heldring said, by the time everything's factored in the 069 comes to about £550.
But the option I'd go for is neither of the above exactly: check ebay for a caad10, easily doable for sub £500 (or if you're a 56cm, pm me :) ). Group - ribble are doing rival 22 for £316 atm (be quick though) or they're cheapest for any groupset atm.
Tyres- spend +£5 and get gp4000s', well worth the upgrade.
Wheels - have a look at superstar components, these look pretty decent http://www.superstarcomponents.com/en/pacenti-sl23-volta-wheelset.htm
Should be able to do it for £1100 fairly easily and get a very good bike.

  • As chief buyer I'd advise you to go for FM066 with Shimano 105 5800 (£270 on merlin atm); Kinlin XR200 (or XC279 if you want wide) on Novatec SL hubs laced with CX Rays; Kalloy Uno stem; RHM02 bars; Lifeline cables and bar tape and loads of leftover beer/holiday money. Or you can spend on latex tubes, decent tyres, Swisstop pads, bike fit etc.

  • ehem... That's full retail so some blagging room exists with your LBS.

You're selling it a bit short IMO with plastic pedals and Gatorskins.

I have a black Antares if you want it.

  • Option B. But you could probably spend less and get better wheels... Check the wherls thread

I'm curious. Any reason you don't rate the px carbon wherls?

  • Russian Titanium will make your balls fall off ...

    Is that not uranium?

  • Don't know what @dave4's reasons are, but the clinchers (ali rim with bonded on carbon fairing) are bogging heavy (1801g) and despite that they have a 100kg weight limit which hardly inspires confidence. I'm assuming @M4xime is looking at the Wide 45 version - if not, they're also narrow and not that aero.

  • I'd get Flo30's over both of those wheelsets.

  • scrub both those frame ideas and go for something new - bowman-palace

  • get a pinnacle, they come in a multitude of colours
