i think the answer is buy a Airport Time Capsule as my wireless router and remote drive and then use the AirPort express for AirPlay to stereo only.
not exactly cheap, but i guess worth it for 2 TB seamless plug and play network storage with airplay to my stereo from any device.

So you're just changing the location of your music files from SD card to a nas? As long as the nas is mounted on your Mac you can just point iTunes to your music library on it, the rest of your setup doesn't change.

I do a similar thing with a synology nas and a regular home router, streams fine to airport express.

What if the Nas is on the airport express though? Can't imaging a reason it wouldn't work... Just want to know for sure.
Hi I really hope someone can give me a clear answer here.
At home I listen to music in the following manner:
SD card => MacBook Air => AirPort Express / AirPlay => home stereo
I really want to ditch the SD card but maintain the Airplay freedom. I refuse to store MP3 on my computer however and so i need some network based solution which also allows airplay.
The Airport Express will not support a USB external hard drive.
Does anyone here use an AirPort Express with NAS storage???
If so can you stream your iTunes library via airplay BACK to the Airport router to which the NAS is connected?
Thanks so much
Sorry for the long post.
