Quick update on Giant tcx slr 2 which is now about 3 months old - commuting and a few forays into forests, parks and woods. It's a cracking bike, let down only by the spyre brakes which - like Andy - I think I will look to upgrade to hyd as soon a poss.

I might pull trigger on the Rose CX bike. Non disc tho.

What are the decent options for a steel frame with a standard threaded BB shell? Want something for light touring buy maybe also doing CX on later. Anything to consider other than the Croix de Fer (Reynolds 725)? Is that too heavy for racing on?
Also, I ride a 60cm CAAD10, and the 60cm Croix de Fer has similar measurements within a couple of mm (TT and reach). Is that correct for CX, then a slightly shorter stem (have 120 on the CAAD10)? Or go for a smaller frame?

Yep red paint job.

Same size frame shorter stem.

How about Stevens CX bikes? Are they sold anywhere in the UK?

(Over £1000 for that one, I know)

You might have to pop over to Belgium for those. Hargroves dealt with them at some point, not sure if they do now...
-
• #3241
Ridley is probably easier to get ahold of.
-
• #3242
Edwardes can get Ridley in - but they aren't Stevens
-
• #3243
Sportline as well, but have to be special orders.

They do look nice. I like the fact they're based in Hamburg, the bikes seem to win races (not only in CX), and their "About us" write-up too:

Will be cycling to Hamburg in the spring, so guess I'll drop by in person then. You were right: nearest dealers are in Belgium.

@owlz was looking at Stevens too.
They are Germany's answer to Trek I think.

How so?

Just a feeling :)

I've got a Rose Pro DX Cross 3000 'MB' a lot of bike for the money. Loving the disc brakes makes a big difference. Even loving the front brake on the left not the right, forget to tick that box.

I did almost press the button on the Rose, but I see the Euro has just had a tumble so will wait a bit :)

Thinking about a pinnacle arkose.. Question is, getting 2, 3 or just the frame for 100 quid and building. I really like the arkose 2 setup (hydro brakes and single bar end shifter) but building could be better on the long run... Decisions
@Chalfie Enter the Vets category - the field is bigger and more varied, the course will be less shagged, and you'll have some spectators.
