  • The SL42 is basically a copy of Foffa's unique rims.

    #themoreyouknow

  • I don't believe either of you.

Is there an Alex rim of the same profile?

The SL42 was being sold in the UK whilst Foffa were still powdercoating Peugeot's.

  • No, Foffa invented the SL42 before H+Son decided to copy them.

  • Who cares as long as they work? I've not heard any wheel builders say anything bad about them... The only thing they don't have which I would like is a machined braking surface.

  • Are you sure?

I thought they came in both. http://hplusson.com/products/archetype

  • They do have a machined surface, though some are machined before anodising.

  • Foffa invented the SL42 before H+Son decided to copy them.

Please, tell me this story of Foffa's IP being stolen in high-level espionage.

  • Anyone heard of blackjack R1800 wheels, any good? They have been offered to me and compared to Ksyriums. Theese, only in black. Claimed weifht is 708 for front and 970 g for rear.

    Thanks!

  • They've been popping up on internet forums lately. The weight is really heavy for a narrow rim, the build looks accordingly bottom-shelf.

  • Can you post any links to conversations? Would like to hear bit more reviews and thoughts.

  • They look a bit pants. Also: "SPOKES: white flat" - ? - And: "They have been offered to me and compared to Ksyriums" - A person trying to sell them would do that.

Anyway. I'm happy with my CAAD10 and see the only possible upgrade being the wheels. Currently have Mavic Open Pro Ceramic / Hope Pro III / DT Swiss. Is it worth shelling out for something like Krysiums or Dura Ace clinchers? Or not much point?

  • No point

  • Agreed. The only performance upgrade from that is probably deep, carbon and tubular and ain't nobody got the time (unless you're racing).

  • Nope.

Ksyriums will be stiffer. Dunno about DA.

  • These are really good wheels with minimal rim wear a massive bonus in my experience. Where and how did you find them? I got some 23mm wheels which I find make a nice difference but now have to regularly rebuild again.

  • Thanks for the advice.

Found them as a pair on eBay about 2 years ago. Got them for a really good price, about £130. Crashed the bike they were on so replaced the front wheel with one of two Open Pro Ceramics I bought (again for a very good price of £50 for the pair I think) off eBay as well. Have one spare rim incase of any more accidents.

They do seem to be wearing well. Need to learn to true them myself.

  • I have identical wheelset. has done flanders and paris-roubaix, no problem.

  • The only thing worth upgrading is really a wider rims, but I'd just ride them to death instead, can't beat Open Pro.

How's the braking with the ceramic? I struggle with mine with the right pads.

  • Pacenti 23 wheelset clearance at superstar:
    £199 at the moment and 20% off with code XMAS21 - £159.99

  • Braking is very good with the Swissstop Flash Pro Green pads (can be used for Ceramic - they used to make Blue ones but not anymore I think). Excellent in damp conditions too.

  • Ditto Swissstop greens for me with the older Open SUP Ceramics, though wet stopping can be crap, but the pads are quite old...

  • Any own a pair of mavic slr 2014 version? if so do they know how wide their rims are?

  • 15 mm internal

  • wow 15mm? that's pretty narrow for a pair of rims no?
