It's too late to order it in time anyway, best to get the Kinesis and gradually build it up.
-
• #603
it will be... lighter

He's not talking about your wallet.

• #605
But if I buy a CAAD10, I won't have to swap mudguards! That's worth 1500 in itself.
-
• #606
I can't wait for the inevitable "I bought the kinesis" and then everyone is like, but I can't you bought that
Srsly dude. The caad 10 is not sensible. Buy kinesis, ride. Save up for hi mod super six or whatever next year. But really good luck with next build, I would be gutted if this happened to me.

I honestly don't see why the CAAD10 isn't a sensible winter bike. Enough clearance for 25c and guards, nice geometry, repairable in a crash. Di2, despite my above mentioned issues, is reliable and doesn't need much maintaining.
What has the Kinesis got that makes it so excellent as a winter bike, apart from being cheap?
-
• #609
OK, no buy the caad. It'll be great and you probably won't need to upgrade.

^^Kinesis are well known for their alu tubing and are generally rated as good bikes both for training and racing. The old version which could only take 25mm + 'guards and a 1 1/8" fork was well loved.
Surely a bike that can take 28mm + 'guards, with actual mud guard mounts is much better than faffing around with compromise mounting systems and having less clearanc, no? They're also made by a UK company if that's important.
Also surely price is a relevant factor.
Also will it actually be much cheaper to repair expensive thin walled alu tubing over carbon? Or do you mean Cannondale do a crash replacement for 1st owners?

The fact that Cannondale are well known for the alu tubing and are rated as good bikes both for training and racing?
If I buy the Kinesis, I would have to buy it a new groupset at some point, when my SRAM Red goes back over the a summer frame. I don't think that it will come out much vastly than 1,500, whatever I stick on it.
-
• #612
Sounds like you're sold on the caad.
I'm not sure buying another groupset next winter sounds like a deal breaker. But if it were me I'd use your current one for winter, switch it over to a new road bike for the summer, then back to the winter bike and buy a brand new group in spring 2016.

amey, next time I need a bike, can you do the shopping? A little side business for you maybe?
-
• #615
ha! I havent even factored in Quidco

Probably because you've spent all winter internet cycling.
-
• #617
The caad10 will do everything you need and so will the Kinesis. Which paint do you prefer?

Alu dents and a that's that. Keep an eye on it and keep riding. You can't really see the damage done to carbon so judging it's safety a bit tricky. To be totally safe it needs an x-ray or putting in the bin.

I was totally happy riding my Supersix last winter too.
That's fair enough. It's you who has to wash it ;-)
-
• #621
Steel dents and a that's that
FTFY - (thin walled) Alu fails in much the same way as carbon - catastrophically, usually after cracking... There is a good reason why Cannondale's were referred to as "crack-n-fail" in the 90's....
It also requires post-weld heat treating (ie after a repair...) -

My CAAD10 is my only road bike.
Ride it in winter and summer. Totally fine for both.
:-)
-
• #623
Black duct tape and keep riding?
-
• #624
I did consider it...

If you get that CAAD10 remember not to upgrade the firmware otherwise no 11 speed upgrade by just changing the RD
Have you bought a Ribble yet?
Regarding the Bowman and Caad10: if you buy either of these great, stiff, flighty, skinny tyred racers that's fine but what's the point owning a summer bike. How will it differ... it'll be the same, just cost more? #doingitwrong
You clearly need to buy or borrow an appropriate
Talbotwinter hack. Either a bike or just a frame.
