Ta. Tried that but I can't tell what's pad material and what's backing plate if you know what I mean? I'll have to take them apart. Not riding tomorrow so probably won't bother. Might see if any of the bike shops in town have pads and slicks for it and then build it up properly on the weekend.

Pads might be hard to come by for Mags unless you go to an MTB specific shop, and even then... The £6 sintered ones on eBay or from Superstar are good in my experience.
Thing is, they should be self adjusting for pad wear, so even if you are down to the backing plate the bite point will be the same. It sounds like they need a bleed or need to be 'mobilised'.
You can eyeball them from above the caliper but it's probably worth pulling them out. Wheel off, undo the long Allen pin then push them into the centre and pull them out. The Pistons are magnetised...it's a safety feature. Just so you know.
