Sounds like they need a bleed - IIRC Louise only has reach adjustment. You could also try the weird magura procedure that unbinds the piston if they get stuck.

CRC are doing a pair of XTs for about 100 quid at the mo,
Could be worth it.

Do I need to pull the pads out to check or just remove the wheel? No idea how far they stick out.

You can eyeball them from above the caliper but it's probably worth pulling them out. Wheel off, undo the long Allen pin then push them into the centre and pull them out. The Pistons are magnetised...it's a safety feature. Just so you know.
