It will almost certainly completely die soon. Get a new one. My 08 MBP went at the beginning of this year with similar shenanigans an the lead up. that and ridiculous fan speeds, high temps, no battery and then one day zip. nothing but a tiny white light blinking on the front.
I am constantly amazed and astounded at the speed of my new one.
