  • Herne Hill. @bmx_fred has 1st dibs as he PM'd me a couple of hours ago.

    From my conversation with him:

    Known issues are:
    A) the steam wand drips (could be solved by a descale and/or adjusting the valve)
    B) There waste pipe seems to be backed up - I'm not sure what the source of this is - might try a backflush again later today.
    c) the shower screen screw is rounded off - you would either need to get it out with an extracting drill bit, or cut the bolt off with a Dremel and use pliers to undo the screw. I actually have a spare screw somewhere - and also a replacement gasket which you are welcome to.

  • To be honest. I like the idea of buying something like that, but I would also like to own something from new, with a warranty. I don't really want something that I have to open up and modify, or get serviced - I already have enough of that with bikes!

I don't really want something second hand - I just want something slightly better than a Classic which will last a long time. We also have limited worktop space in our kitchen and quite a low max height, which rules most commercial machines out.

  • Cool - well let me know.

  • @dan let me know if bmx_fred doesn't take it, I'm interested if he doesn't, would like a 2nd one to mess about with

  • As for what you go for next, modding a gaggia is fun, but it would be much nicer to just have something that can produce a consistent shot without having to modify....there's nowt consistent about my gaggia, though I'm sure that will change when I lower the output pressure and fit a pid...

  • Would anyone be interested in going in on an order for a set on Inker Luna Flat White cups and saucers?
    http://www.machina-espresso.co.uk/collections/cups-and-glasses-inkers-cups/products/inker-luna-mint-green-flat-white-cup-saucer-6oz
I'm only after a pair, but there is a fairly big price break when ordering 6 (£28 for 2 inc postage, would be a few pence shy of £15 all in for a pair if I can find buyers for the other 4).
Colour would have to be agreed upon, I'm swaying towards either mint or orange.
Could also be persuaded into a matching set of espresso's to go with them.
Collection can be arranged from Kings Cross or Holborn.
    Cheers,
    Dan

  • tiny ears on them tazzini...

  • I'm in for two, any colour - but the pictured colour is boss.

  • Great, the pictured colour is my frontrunner.
Anyone else tempted to get in on 2 (or more)?

  • Ancoats is roasting a Rocko Mountain Reserve Yirgacheffe which is going down well here either v60 or Aeropress.

Anyone know of owt really special knocking about I should try for Xmas hols beans?

  • What's the place that does the non rapha/rapha espresso cups?

  • Best home machine are dual.boiler, look at the La Spaziale S1, the Sage by Hb and if you're super flush the La Marzocco GS3

  • Those Gs3's are lovely. A friend who runs a cafe just ordered and delivered one for a customer of his. Very Rapha.

  • Steve's coffee from Bella Barista is very, very good. I've only tried the Gaslight Espresso Blend, and the Brazilian Daterra so far. The espresso blend is just exactly what an espresso blend should be; perfectly balanced, and in this case neither too dark or too light. The acidity is muted to a nice level, and it's really sweet too. Also found it worked well in the Aeropress.

  • I'll second that, just got my christmas supplies of the gaslight espresso blend, cracking blend and roast

  • Can anyone recommend a V60 / pour over set up w/ a decanter.

  • ^ I have one of these and like it very much. Chemex Woodneck also does a similar kind of thing.

  • Doesn't the coffee get cold very quickly in these things?

  • Saw the Hario copper v60 and pouring jug today. Nice looking, but pricey.

  • Coffeehit used to do a really nice set with a ceramic v60 on top of a glass server, came in a nice box. Their new website is baffling though so not even going to attempt it on my phone.

Re: coffee going cold in the server, I guess it's meant more for 3 or 4 cups at a time rather than for one person to come back to for refills. Wouldn't want to keep good coffee for too long anyway, even if insulated.

  • What the failed embedding of those two gifs was trying to say was thanks. I'm chuffed that you both like it :)
