  • Get On Up, too much to squeeze in but makes a decent effort, great fun and better than I expected.

  • Has this been posted yet?

Saw it before The Drop this week. Looks ace.

    Moto pannukakku!

  • INGB - Tom Hardy tho

    *swoon*

  • What We Do in the Shadows - Nice little vampire comedy from New Zealand, recommend!

  • I think someone was telling me about this recently, is it a mockumentary?

  • Your whole life's a mockumentary... #booooom

  • Sorry, feeling silly...

  • It is indeed, but it works well.

  • That MM trailer looks absolutely nuts, it'll be fun. January's also a great month for releases; Birdman, Whiplash, Foxcatcher, Inherent Vice to name a few.

Also providing Miller and Lord are on board and they don't have to tone it down for classification this could be fucking great http://bit.ly/1vH19bT

  • ... if you are a 15 year old boy.

  • Any idea how long Interstellar is going to be in theaters for?

I really must get round to watching that in IMAX while it's still on.

  • Pantani film is on netflix now.

  • Saw the trailer for Foxcatcher the other day.
I didn't realise it was Steve Carrel til i saw his name at the end! Looks really good... and kind of strange.

  • War Story.

A wounded American war photographer grieves (mostly in a hotel) somewhere in Sicily. She finds a migrant (with her own issues) to toil with. It's bleak, it's numb, you can sense the catharsis.

It got slated for being slow and not engaging. There is zero suspense at any point and the two lead characters are afraid, defensive, and pretty cold. This didn't really bother me. The story of the migrant girl is one that's shared by thousands and completely under-told – what meets migrants once into the EU.

The 'immigration debate' in the UK seems darkly comic when you look at what is happening to refugees coming into southern Italy.

  • raid on entebbe, why don't they make films like this anymore, hmm?

  • tusk - i liked it! and it gets bonus points for 'poutinieweenie' and an uncredited johnny depp.

  • Gone Girl... Unsure what to think...

  • an entertaining enough potboiler until they tacked on the 'oooh, isn't the meeja just terrible, amirite?' pontificating.

nightcrawler on the other hand... amaez.

  • Yes but Rosamund. Survived the shittest Bond ever.

  • Similar movies thematically, I guess, Nightcrawler kicks it's arse tho'...

I was a bit uncomfortable with the way the Amy character was portrayed, it felt a bit off... It's just Fatal Attraction/Vertigo with some bells and whistles...

  • Nightcrawler is ace and definitely superior but I loved Gone Girl for it's ability to keep me absolutely glued to the screen. I didn't find the conclusion to be that convincing. (But then it did also have Emily Ratajkowski so...)

  • Listen Up Philip.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyErKmF6xdo

Smartypants comedy about an arsehole writer.

Elisabeth Moss (Peggy in Mad Men) really is brilliant.

  • Not the right place to debate this, because of spoilers, but the more I think about it the more I think the movie stinks... I think the tone is way off, normal Hollywood bollocks basically... Works as a blockbuster, star-studded thriller but it's totally vacuous as a film... The morality is totality upside down...

Maybe I'm just overthinking it... I wound up feeling more compassion for Rosamund Pike's character than Ben Affleck's...

    Anyway, it's only a stupid film... :)
