LEDs have such lower power requirements that a small battery pack will do for a couple of hours a day from now until Christmas. Another option is to run a low voltage ribbon cable between the opening and fixed parts of an opening light in a window, there's often enough squish in the seals to accommodate that in modern window units, or enough free clearance somewhere in ancient wooden ones. Don't under any circumstances run mains outside unless protected by a low (10mA) residual current circuit breaker.
Er..to get my kids into the Xmas spirit, I'd like a small set of classy, white outdoor lights in our front garden tree. I have no permanent outdoor mains supply nor do I want to drill holes in the house. How do I supply power?
