Witnessed two commuters make school boy errors last wednesday evening and pay the price on Old street (Shoreditch end). First bloke on an Orange SS patently thought that I was going too slow in front of him (after 10 hours of cycling for a living I am in go slow mode at that time of the day) so he swung to the outside of the lane WITHOUT looking and promptly got rammed by a motorbike coming up the outside, both the cyclist and motorcyclist were ok but i am sure the former was shaken and bruised (he looked pretty shocked that is for sure). To the motorbike riders credit the first thing he said was ''Are you Ok'', if I was in his shoes I would have let rip on the fella.
So after checking it out and letting out an expletive I carried on when I noticed a Shoreditch type (Shaved head, waxed beard and shoes with no socks...ewwww) on a nice looking metallic purple singlespeed with the standard Fixie-wannabe set up (no rear brake), as he sped along on the lights switched to red at the junction of Old street and shoreditch high street when the taxi in front of him came to a halt, of course the sockless gentlemen went into the back as his front brake did not have the stopping distance to be effective in the wet. The cyclist was ok but was clearly bruised, shaken and most tellingly had gone as white as a sheet (Impressive for a white boy). What are the odds man on two commuter fuck ups within 40-50 seconds of each other on the same short stretch of road?? the commuter peloton is a sight to behold sometimes for sheer recklessness and ineptness.

Ironic you don't like being drafted on your way to the track...
As for the helmet and hi-viz comment you need the "calling out cyclists who aren't really doing anything wrong thread".

Cool, I'm off to get my head shaved then, just as soon as I get these socks off.

Calling out me.
I was a dick.
Yesterday I was on my sweet shopping fixeh with shiny chrome front basket on the way back home along a cycleway (the guided busway path, Cambridge fans) and was closing slowly on a promuter with sweet deep section crabonz. I knew when I overtook him he would probably wheel suck, since it's no fun being overtaken by chunky old me on a shopping bike. I performed a smart-arse, nose-breathing, casual overtake like I wasn't even trying, he got on my wheel. I pressed on, he stayed glued on. I slowed a bit, he slowed a bit.
So I pulled a mini 'get off my wheel' skid. Only a dinky one but he panic braked and went down.
I immediately realised I'd been silly but went all defensive and 'get off my effing wheel bro'.
I let him go, telling him he was a danger. But decided to catch up and say sorry for being a dick. He didn't look like he accepted my apology. Which was fair enough.
Sorry, European guy. I'm a douche. You probably shouldn't ride that close, but I should have just turned round and told you that.

Nothing can absolve me from the pangs of my tortured conscience.
Except time. I'll have probably got over it tomorrow.

The guy who shouted dip your lights at me on the cyclepath across tooting bec. Your lights are shit if you had any. My light is dipped but it's a cree so just brighter. If you deliberatly picked shit lights as people complained they could see them then fool be you. Oh and your flappy lollypop thing was on the wrong side of your bike.

Almost taken out last night as I rode up New North Road by a cyclist who joined from a side street without looking. I was about to remonstrate when I realised that he was on his phone talking away and to oblivious to his surroundings. Rather than express my views I thought I would allow him to finish his call and see if he could manage that without becoming a statistic. Pleased to see no black logo this morning.

As I was overtaking stationary traffic at a red light, girl on a bike decides it's too crowded undertaking them so dips between a couple of cars and pops out in front of me without looking. Caught her eye as I was overtaking and just did a slow head shake. Still not sure she realised she'd done anything wrong.
Audibly winced as a girl on a boris undertook a scaffolding lorry indicating left (allowing loads of warning time). She went off a different way so did not get to tell her about how silly that is.

Still feeling the effects of the winter vomiting virus so got a bus from the office to London Bridge station last night. Good to see that even buses just pull out in front of other buses and not just us cyclist.

cree> If you were dazzling him, you were dazzling him. Maybe you think you weren't, but only he can be the judge of that.
This whole brighter and brighter war we seem to have going on with car headlights and now sadly bike lights reminds me somewhat of the loudness war. Since xenon and LEDs and all that whatnot came in for cars the govt really should have had a proper crackdown on what is acceptable brightness. It's way too late for that now though, unfortunately, so we get situations like this.
sigh
@pdlouche no heavy duty bike safety flag? some people confuse them for livery
