• Forgive the poor photo, this is my 2014 Croix De Fer 931 with 650b wheels and 2.1" smart sam tyres. They rub on the guards so I'm thinking of removing them for the worst of the winter and just run a beaver tail and a mylar front guard.

The only thing I'm worried about is there is only a couple of mm clearance between the chain stays and the tyre and the fork and the tyre. Am I going to ruin my bike if I ride it on fire trails and paths??

  • there is only a couple of mm clearance between the chain stays and the tyre and the fork and the tyre.

If you are riding real dirty it'll clug up fast - but semi dry trails will keep your grin afar.

  • That's what I'm thinking. I mean unless a big stone actually jams in there it's not going to damage it. Gearing with be 34-50 up front and 32-11 at the back. That should be good enough for most trails.

    Bring on the winter!
