  • I wouldn't expect one to snap but I wouldn't expect it not to either...

  • However, if the opinion is that they will snap after three years riding on the road, shouldn't there be some kind of disclaimer from Dolan? Should I now get another frame for fear of the inevitable and, apparently, normal happening?

It is an alu frame and dependent on the abuse it gets it may fail. This is not limited to Dolan Pre Cursa's of course, a few years back Cannondale's were called cracknfale which presumably arose from a good few of them having issues.

  • I gotta say, surely you would never expect a frame to snap.

Frames still snap. It's usually fat people or couriers though so it's best to be neither of these.

Road frames from decent companies are increasingly warranteed for years (if not life). It's trickier if you're using a track frame on the road.

  • If you ride a frame around all winter and don't really bother to take care of it, its not gonna last forever. I snapped my IRO while using it for work, so just put it down to the daily battering it took. I also snapped a sugino messenger crank arm in half.

  • Finally decided on a Pre Cursa frameset, after lusting over the discounted Cinellis on Planet X (still too rich for me). Anyway, can't argue with the price of the P-C's and pretty excited to build it up once it arrives.

Going to rattle can it as I don't really like all the decals. There's some pretty nice builds here so will probably be 'borrowing' some ideas, although I will be using a fair few parts I already own.

So yeah +1 to the million P-C owner club :)

  • Loving my PC. Just stickered it up and switched out my MTB pedals for Shimano r550. Loving it. Picked up some Shimano Cleat covers and walking is reasonably easy.

@monkdagola What colour you getting? I'm sure you will love the handling of it.

Oh BTW. I had to leave a scathing review on Trust pilot after Parcelforce failed to meet delivery date and the same day Carolyn responded to me as they sent my package to the wrong city. Apparently people didn't know where London was. https://www.trustpilot.co.uk/review/www.parcelforce.com/5461e4b80000640002b30a04

She sorted it out fast. If she didn't it was on its way to Manchester for some reason. Parcelforce take the mick.

  • "2.5 years enjoyed cycling. Until all of a sudden the frame snapped at the chain stay, which didnt just happen over night had been manifesting its self all the while."

So you noticed a crack in an aluminium frame, chose to ignore it then are surprised when it propagates through the rest of the tube and lets go in spectacular fashion putting your safety at risk.

    Ummmmm......

  • I've gone for the matt black, seems like the decals are under the lacquer? Yeah, I'm pretty excited to get it rolling! Tempted to get some new Atacs as I've currently got the old 90's grey ones.

  • Built up:

    complete with wanky wheel slogan.
Got wider bars on the way and need to swap the saddle out.

  • The bigger these PC frames get, the better they look. That's super nice man, well done!

    #wheeltalk

  • Cheers 'dotes. Ride is good feels too.

  • I've currently got the old 90's grey ones.

I had some of these spare and they got snapped up on here.

They're in demand for their 'before it was cool' factor ;-)

  • I discovered that they've seized into my old cranks.

  • Balls.

Tried heating up the crank arm?

  • Yessir; no joy.

  • Iv sprayed over the decals on a couple of Dolans now, use cheap matt black paint or BBQ paint, you cant tell at all

  • Fair, I assume you sprayed the whole frame, not just the decals?
I've leccy taped over them for now. Doesn't look that bad tbh.

  • Anyone ever used Allen key skewers on a pre Cursa?

    Any good?

What size for rear dropouts needed?

  • You've gone from demanding you need wheel pullers to now wanting to use QR wheels?

  • I'm not sure how good an idea it is to use quick release / allen key skewers on the rear? Never tried just imagine it would slip a lot no?

I've got this one on the my front wheel and there is a bit of extra screw poking out so it might fit a rear.

  • You've gone from demanding you need wheel pullers to now wanting to use QR wheels?

I can already see the next question - "What chain tugs are best for a QR axle?"

  • Damned if I do. Damned if I don't.

So might as well ask the question here.

  • Seen some track riders use them but wanted to know if this would ever work on road with the stop, start and skidding riding

  • Some track hubs have allen key nuts. And you can use a closed-cam qr on the rear wheel of a singlespeed but...

Seen some track riders use them.

On the front yes. On the rear no.
