Yes.

I think I might have to, but have you tried wiping the HDD on Ubuntu? Talk about complicated (and not aided by the space bar working intermittently).

Everything on the way, only cost me £170 in total for the 500GB SSD, the caddy and the Super drive enclosure, I can easily afford another 2TB backup drive as well... Thanks for the tips...
Looking forward to the performance increase...

Anybody ever had any ghosting with their macs? http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202580
Got facebook(sad) stuck faintly in the background on mine, can't have been open more than 20 minutes...

my work imac ghosts really really bad. I sometimes fullscreen a grey image while I wander off to find food at lunch to 'wipe' it clean.

It's a bit shit really, the brightness is always down low but that doesn't seem to matter. This has happened a few times when I open things in photoshop too
Yosemite was a mistake

I've had that photoshop problem, but it's rare and I don't think it's apples fault. It's down to Adobe to sort that out.
Brightness won't have any effect on ghosting since afaik it's separate LED's or something that provide the light. Just use a screensaver?

^ Haven't checked this thread in a while. Are there still lots of problems with third party software and Yosemite? Adobe issues would put a new mbp on hold if so... (though there's always bootcamp).

I'm having Chrome/Yosemite problems... I know Chrome is shit anyway but it's been unusable today, been reading that Apple may have knobbled it in Yosemite... Sucks if that's true...

I'm still on CS5, absolutely no probs here...
-
• #6987
Cs5 appears to play nicely. Chrome is a tiny bit buggy.

Chrome Version 40.0.2214.28 beta (64-bit)
Rock solid in Yosemite for me.

Ta, both. I'm CS5.5 but Windohs only (cs4 for mac) but was planning on splurging on CC having been wildly impressed with the free month.
In other news, what's the received wisdom of the SSD choice Apple uses for their builds?
I have a laptop I'm looking to replace. Primarily editing video mobile and plugged in (with some gaming plugged in but not a priority). I use a Samsung 830 atm and would like an 850 (£479 for 1TB on ebayer) for the new build but suspect Apple defaults to lowest common denominator in SSD terms. Presumably not worth upgrading to their brand 1TB for £400?

Anyone on adobe cc that can report success / fail?
-
• #6991
Apple SSD's and third party are actually quite different... Apple uses PCIe connections which has bigger bandwidth meaning quicker read write times and therefore a faster machine.
Different kettle of fish.

No issues with CS6 or Chrome here?
-
• #6994
I'm on Yosemite with CC, Chrome etc. and all is fine.
Not sure what all the complaining is about...
-
• #6995
Really? That's very interesting. Never heard about that. I used a Samsung SSD in an old macbook pro (2009 model 13"). Will investigate.

Flash has been misbehaving on my machine, other than that...
-
• #6997
Yeahhh.. all the new stuff... I think its from 2013 onwards...

Everything in Yosemite is fine for me. Adobe CC is fine. Chrome a little more buggy than usual but it seems to have settled down.
Annoyingly it's VLC that is doing weird things to FLAC files when output via USB to external DAC. Will have to investigate.
