  • I have never run mudguards on my tourers, feeling that they are one more thing to come loose and cause a problem. How effectively do they reduce chain wear relative to, say, regular cleaning?

  • That's true, they can be a nightmare. If you're out for a few days, especially if you're camping, it's nice to avoid getting soaked and muddy.

    I always laugh at a pair of raceblade close clearance mudguards that have been sat in a field near me for a few months. Some roadie must have just got the rage and lobbed them.

  • A lots, with properly fitted guard and flap, I oiled my chain a lots less regularly, even after a 1400km audax, through night riding and downpour, the chain is still fresh.

    Dry feet are most welcome, I never liked to wake up to wet shoes in the morning.
