Anyone have experience of the Kinesis CX disc wheels?
-
• #4028
Not directly but meant to offer good value for money and can stand up the rigours of off road riding.
Is it for off road riding or commuting or a mix of both?

Off road Andy.

I have Kinesis Crosslight wheels on my Tarski'. Haven't done much riding offroad but so far they've been great. Fairly light too.

I'd go tubeless myself. Eliminates most punctures and you can run lower pressures than clinchers.

I'm using Stan's Iron Cross laced to Novatec hubs. They are only rated to 40 psi though, so not much use if you need to use them on the road a lot.

Dont worry scoble will be here soon to tell you that 40 psi is for road riding ;)

My Shimano RX31 for £200 are tough as fuck and my experiences of always wrecking cartridge bearings in hubs has brought me back to the one true path of cups and cones.
The new carbon laminate deeper section RX830 are £600 and tubeless compatible

I do need the flexibility of road riding too, so will need to stick to clinchers.

Ha! I nearly added that but was typing on the phone and couldn't be arsed.

I've not investigated tubeless for road yet, mainly because the cost of the tyres is so prohibitive.
Those Kinesis wheels will probably be perfect for you then.

That's my track pressure.
If I ever ride track.

I echo this, the Rx31 is pretty heavy, but very tough.

I am soon going that way for winter riding :P between Grand Bois Hetre and Compass Babyshoe Pass which has better puncture resistance? There is also this: http://www.bike-mailorder.com/Bike-Parts/Tires-Tubes/Pari-Moto-Gravel-folding-tire-650B.html But thats just 38mm ideally I need 650x42b

Both will be fine, the Hetre's thread pattern is good for preventing object from getting embedded, however they do have a slight squirm due to the higher thread when cornering, they're my tyres of choice for commuting/touring.
I started getting puncture regularly after 10,000km when the thread is completely smooth.
Babyshoe Pass/Loup Loup have the best feel, weight and grip overall.
The Pari-Moto tyres are also great, but they cut up way too easy.

Inner tubes; 27.5 x 1.75-2.10 should work right? I am most likely going Hetre unless they are not black in which case Babyshoe pass.
10,000km .. ed dont you know me!? Do you think I'll be riding the same bike?

Just get the 26" tube, Schwable SV12 will do.
If you want to reduced weight and improved puncture resistance, the SV14A is another option.

@Zed How about Stans Grail or Velocity Aileron? Both road and cross tubeless compatible apparently. I have a pair of the former and they look the business, just haven't got round to building them up yet...

SV14A
Repped. I didn't know they existed.

I wanted ready to roll wheels rather than building something... are those velocity rims available yet?
Also I'm not sure I'm ready to go tubeless. So its between Kinesis CX and Novatec CXD's.
The Shimano wheels are as heavy as my current Alex Rim Black Dragon CX on Shimano hubs.
I'm basically trying to build a rear Ellipse, but like, not heavy and shit.
