  • Ts, wielding a nakiri before it was kool

Although the real trendsetters are now chipping flint adzes

    #searchforauthenticity

  • Is it pattern welded? that sounds like failure to cold weld correctly.

  • I had to chuck my old one out a couple of weeks ago... The tang had come loose in the handle and I couldn't find a way to keep it secured, bought the same model with an even nicer wooden handle for £9.99 in TK Maxx... Love it, works really well but I'd love a posh one...

  • bought a trowel and fork set in tk maxx recently
    trowel has broken
not sure they are the place for decent non clothing items ... are they ?

  • No dicki

  • Dont put your knives into a block that way up. If the spine is down then there is no dulling effect on the edge whenever you remove or replace them.

  • Depends. My girlfriend is a buyer for TK so I have the inside track on what's what, some stuff is old dead stock and some stuff is made to order. And then some stuff is commissioned and then also sold by the original retailer. And then some brands are TK Maxx by another name.

What I do is grab the thing off the shelf, put it my basket and Google it to check the rrp, customer reviews etc. Also TK do mail order which not a lot of people think they would but this tends to be lines where they have large amounts to sell, the best bits imo are end of line high-end brands but these tend to end up in the premium stores.

TK also have shops called 'Homesense' which are the same principle, basically no clothes but garden and kitchen stuff although I've never been that impressed compared to a larger TK Maxx. And as someone who has visited most stores within 30 miles of London I can say the best for cookware are the Purley Way store, Bromley and Lewisham. #csb

Ps, return that shit, I've never seen them quibble a refund.

  • I'd agree that Victorinox are very good value (and aren't sexy). Sharpen nicely and personally I find the Fibrox handles far comfier than the Global metal ones, even if they look nowhere near as good (although that's a fairly individual preference).

  • the fine blade on those victorinox make for good cutting too
some of the sabatiers have quite a thick blade and are useless for carrots, parting rather than cutting ... and yes they are sharp

  • Cheers! Googling that word gave me everything I need, I should think.
No stacked birch though. Will try to make it really simple looking in domestic grown wood of some description.

  • This beauty just turned up in the post. It's a Sakai Takayuki pairing knife with a Damascus steel blade. It's super nice, and I'm a bit gutted I've got to give it to someone else for Christmas!

The person it's for is over in South Africa... I'm flying down on Monday. Am I right in assuming it will be ok to take this in my checked luggage?

  • Yeah that will be fine in the hold. Just not in the cabin.

  • Beautiful... He'll love that...

  • How do you find mail order knives? Part of the thing with a knife is how it feels in your hands.

  • Pre 2001 I went to costa rica. In the giant bazaar there I bought a bundle of 8 machetes which I was going to give to my friends as gifts. I didn't want them to cut up anything in my suitcase so I brought them carry-on. Nobody batted an eyelash. Ahh simpler times. To be young and naive to the dangers of Terror, and our war against the same.

Has this has been a cool story, bros?

Update: I also bought 3 Slayer LPs which I also carried on. Unrelated, but I thought I would share.

  • stag weekend in amsterdam ?

  • Any decent recommendations for an inexpensive pocketable every day carry knife? Need a sharp edge frequently these days and could do with carrying something like this.

  • you can't whack a good old swiss army knife

  • From sacredhart couple of pages back

    http://www.heinnie.com/rough-rider-lockback-stainless
    http://www.heinnie.com/hultafors-heavy-duty-knife

As you are too lazy to click back a couple of pages.

  • must be non lock-able to be legal-able ,no?

  • No idea, but being white and not a youth but still a hoodie wearer I have never had a problem with a leatherman, a cheapie leatherman copy that has a big locking blade.

  • I actually started from page 1 then my head exploded.

That heavy duty one is perfect for leaving at work. Damn cheap too!

  • I has an opinel for daily duties but it is illegal due to the locking cuff.

  • Thanks for this, will check it out.
