Anyone fancy a trip toRetromobile in Paris in February?

The Panzerwagen has passed another MoT!
That is all. -

I'd dust that California off and roll it as is though. A slightly ratty, french-registered, yellow headlamped Cali has to be about as cool as it gets.
Indeed.
If you have the means I'd highly recommend picking one up.

My turbo is very poorly.
1k gets a new one ~340 bhp
1.8k gets new turbo plus intercooler etc~370 bhp
Or Garret turbo and supporting mods for 400+ bhp, £2,500+ -

You're faced with the law of dimishing returns on this Ovlov.
What to do? Head says don't, heart says do.
-
• #21533
Yeah, but seeing as how it can't put the power down as it is through its poor scrabbling little front wheels, there are many compelling reasons why it needs more.

The (viscous) LSD deals with ~340 surprisingly well.
One of the knock on effects of 400 upward would be the need for a Gripper plate-type LSD.

Who knows about turbo chargers?
-
• #21536
^ @danstuff 's mate Chris does. He very confused me once when talking about compressor maps.
Corky Bell knows stuff if you want to read a book on it, but he likes a bit of conjecture and I came out even more puzzled than I went in.

This is true. Chrispy G is the turbo guru. He's Mr. Trigger Wheels too.
-
• #21538
Can you ask him what he'd put on a 2.3 litre I5?
The yanks all go for the 3176r type unit (or larger), which I suspect would be too large for the UK.

I don't know if that's actually helpful but I came across it.
Also, there's a guy called Dan at Ardler Automotive near Gatwick who knows a lot about turbos, choosing the right one for you application etc.

I'm probably just looking for validation here - I think I will go for either a Mitsubishi 19T or the new IPD hybrid turbo:
As they are both "bolt on", which is a very significant cost saving (both in time and materials) in comparison to say a Garrett.
The IPD turbo has a ball-bearing design, and is designed for 400-450bhp, with the correct supporting modifications.
Entertainingly I broke my traction control today, also - one more thing on the "to fix" list.

Mitsubishi make turbos in house?

I believe so.

mitsubishi td04hl 19T

Picked up an Audi A4 1.8T quattro on the weekend, 190bhp 6-speed, really pulls, build quality like a Swiss watch and the interior is almost literally showroom fresh. Mrs G is also happy because it's practical, where I originally wanted a Mini or an MX5. Fuel econ could be better by modern day standards but I call 30mpg decent for a sporty engine, and it's not a daily driver

Will do, although I suspect the answer will come in the form of lots of questions...

Smart purchase Sir.
Engine mounting bushes are the thing to look for. ALL VAG cars have had issues with them for years.
Enjoy it!

Mega rep.

I've got a little list of things they're known for, comprehensive service history tho, the last service advised of a crack on the rear ARB clamp, apparently a popular DIY fix is to replace it with the RS4 ARB

Not really, different company under the mitsubishi group of companies, an example is mitsubish the electronics companies.
Insane.
