  • So, this year the league thread is suffering from a distinct lack of match reports/write ups. Refs are encouraged to write up the match when they post the scores.

    Ill go first:

    La Haute Bourgeoisie v Three’s a Crowd

This started at a freezing cold Hackney Downs on Tuesday evening. The game started with La Haute Bourgoisie (Bourgies) pressing high, while three’s a crowd looked to get their passing game going with some great interplay between Ed and Ryan on the break. While passes were going astray due to the slight rustiness of everyone’s favourite boat people, the first goal came as a result of such a pass as Ryan split the Bourgies defence with a beautiful through ball and although Nik couldn’t quite reach it, the ball carried on rolling straight through my BB in a slightly embarrassing fashion. 1-0, game on. Ed(?) Scored a second goal with a scorcher of a shot which bounced off a couple of bikes and into the goal, having bent Robbie’s chainring and knocked his chain off in the process. This brings us to the fixture’s surefire MVP. Robbie was on his game from the off, hustling high up the court, intercepting more and more of Three’s a Crowd’s crossfield passes and generally looking super dangerous. This paid off with a lovely goal but it wasn’t enough and the first game ended 2-1 to Three’s a Crowd.

The second game was very much a reversal of fortunes but with everyone’s favourite 2010 Euro’s finalist, Marxist scholar and general OG, Chukker stepping up his good play in the first game to pepper the Three’s a Crowd goal with shots and generally prove a menace for the rest of the fixture. One sweet backhander from mid-court shot through about 4 players to put Bourgies 1 up and the score was ? 2-0 to Bourgies halfway through the second game when the lights went off.

After a swift relocation to Mitch, with great debate about exactly which route to take, the game restarted and the game’s nature changed with Three’s a Crowd using their physical advantage to put pressure on Bourgies. While not abandoning their passing game entirely, they were looking to press higher but with Chukker and Robbie hustling brilliantly there was always pressure on their goal which was being left open more and more as Three’s a Crowd looked to press the Bourgies goal. According to the scoreline posted above (I can’t really remember the pattern of goals) this gave them a goal back but the game ended 2-1 to Bougies.

The third match was therefore the decider in this fixture and was characterised by some ridiculous play from the Warinator. Robbie was all over the court harrying the opposition, carrying the ball well and continually winning the possession back in dangerous positions. Nevertheless, Three’s a Crowd persisted in leaving their goal open more often than not and Bourgies started hitting more and more long shots.

Chukker scored another peach of a backhander from mid court, and Robbie scored a great goal over the bars with a scorching reply from Nik. Things were very tight and growing more and more physical as Three’s a Crowd pushed hard for an equaliser. This left them open at the back and Robbie went down the left, drew Ryan and Ed to him and then made a great pass to me in the centre to slot home. Seconds later from the restart, Three’s a Crowd were all caught high for another long range goal, making it 4-1 and hard for a comeback to really happen, especially with the quality of Robbie and Chukker’s hustling. Despite 3 goals from an on fire Ed, Bourgies’ Robbie was able to match those with two goals on the break and the game ended 6-4.

All played in a great spirit (apart from me yelling at Miles- soz) and alot of fun. Thanks to Miles, Woody, Maddie, Beagle (a one man crowd) for reffing and heckling and the ever present Will for being there to take his great pictures.

  • I'll be there
