Bates 1951/2 B.A.R

Bates serial U 16432 which I work out to be a 1951/2 B.A.R according to http://www.classiclightweights.co.uk/builders/bates4.html

531 cantiflex, diandrant forks, Nervex lugs and BB shell.

The bike was wrapped in a layer of chrome and then painted, boxed lined.

Paint is very tatty and chrome is coming off in parts but it's all straight and no dings or dents. Ready for respray.

Bayliss Wiley BB, Headset and Reynolds seat tube all came out easily, threads in great condition.

£395 anyone? Before I put it into storage a.k.a parents shed. Moving abroad February don't have time/money to get all the period parts and to build up.

Last drop as I paid too much on mega impulse buy - £350.

I also have the period correct dunlop lightweight 32/40 rims - £30

It's 59x58 from what I remember. Will double check when I get a chance.

@anidel frame looks deceptively small I bought it thinking it was a 57 even seeing it in person, maybe because rear triangle is quite tight?

Not too keen to sell the bb without having the frame sold as in the likely event that it doesn't sell I'd like to build it up in the distant future. Am already half way with the parts at the moment for it to be built into a period fixie.

I see and it's understandable :) so why don't you put the components you've found so far as well in the sale?

And yeah, it looks like 57 indeed, but now that you say 59/58 it might very well be.

@anidel my thought was that most other parts can be quite subjective to personal preference. And most of my cash is tied up in the frame :(

I'll get the other parts cleaned up and see if I can tempt anyone with a half complete build.
