• Hi I'm new to posting on here so pardon the crappy writing but
did anybody on the forum crash on the diesel spill at Aldwych around 2pm Friday afternoon?
I was going down fairly fast and the next thing I knew was skidding down the road on my right leg.
Two mopeds went over just after.
Strangely, one guy just drove off,
the other seemed to have really hurt his back.

This is total bollocks because I've just started two new jobs that are both fairly physical and although its's not serious my left wrist and
right leg are in a lot of pain.

If this happend to any if you guys please get in touch. According to one of the fireman it was diesel spill from a bus. Do any of you have any experience with dealing with TFL about something like this?

I've got a police incident ref, photographs, and one of the moped riders details. I'm going to try ad register with a doctor on Monday.

  • I would imagine that if they left it unattended (TLF - bus oil leak) then you should be able to sue them and get some money of TFL.

re your hand - I have crashed in March this year and as much as I wished my wrists were only strained it turned out that I had chipped one of me bones and damaged other wrist as well. Get it checked properly. Its been now over 6 months and my wrists are not 100%

  • Hey thanks. I'm going to get in touch with TFL.
6 months, I'm really sorry to hear that. How much can you do with them before it's too much?
I don't want to sue anybody, I just want to know what happened because this really stresses me out and just makes life a total bolus. Had to move house at the weekend too.

  • Saw a copper 'engaging' with a rider whose rear wheel he somehow appeared to have pringled on Endell Street this morning, possibly fixed gear, rider had beard and glasses.

Bike was on the floor in front of a stopped Ford Focus and policeman and rider were having words; copper looking sheepish, rider very shouty.

  • Ended up in the side of a car on the A10 outside Seven Sisters tube this evening. Quite surprising. No severe damage it seems, just an hour getting chilly while the plod did their thing.

  • Ouch. Hope you're still ok this morning. What happened?

  • Set off when the lights changed and all of a sudden there was a car crossing my path. Not sure which road he came from but pretty sure he wasn't sitting in the yellow box waiting to turn.
I was going northbound on the A10, he turned across me into West Green Rd. Damaged the mount for my light and collected some grazes but other than that no real harm seems to have been done.
He wants to know what I'm going to do about the damage to his car (from what I can tell, a dent next to the rear wheel arch and some loose plastic trim). I said I'd put him in touch with the LCC 3rd party insurers.
Mrs Howe was suitably unimpressed when I got home.

  • He wants to know what I'm going to do about the damage to his car

Eh? Surely if he crossed your path as you were going straight he was at fault? Hope the LCC insurers tell him to do one.

  • Yeah I expect that. Hopefully there was a bus behind me with it all on CCTV

  • First crash of my life yesterday morning on the way to work at 7:30am. I was cycling down the cycle path on Theobald's Road near the Gray's Inn Road crossing. The van behind me was indicating left so an Addison Lee driver waiting down a side road decides to pull out before the van gets there. For some reason he thought I was also turning left, or thought he could get out in time, so pulled out in front me. Fortunately I had enough time to push off my bike, which was eventually wiped out by the car, leaving me flying over the bonnet. Somehow I miraculously landed back onto my feet the other side of the car.

Somehow no permanent damage was done to my bike! it just needed the brakes readjusting really. Lucky he crashed into a pacifist and only some harsh words were thrown at him, not the bike.

  • @Maxitime Good to hear you are ok, sounds like it could have been much worse.

  • Waited at some traffic lights to turn right. Lights went green and I started moving, and a motorcyclist overtook me and cut back in front of me. He then misread the red light that applied to the people who were at the left hand of the junction to where we were coming from. He slammed on his brakes for the light that did not apply to him and I went into the back of him. He saw me get up and then drove off.

Am very bruised and the bag carrier on the brommmmmpton got smashed to pieces (the bag went flying down the street.

The idiot should not have been overtaking at the junction and should understand which lights apply to him.

  • Ah, nasty. Hope it's just bruises.

  • Cheers

Am ok, just bruised and strained. Frustratingly we are booked in for a day of MTB skills training tomorrow hoping I won't feel too fragile when I wake up.

  • Got caught out attempting an unwise overtaking manouver today. Traffic was backed up so I was picking my way down the outside of the queue being mindful of any oncoming traffic. Had a look down both sides of a long vehicle and couldn't see anything. A little surprised to see he wasn't moving with the queue as it pulled forward but I was pretty much commited to coming past. Just as I come past the cab I find he's letting a car out of a driveway. Brakes on but it's all too little and too late and bump into his bumper.

I've managed to come out of it completely unhurt but the same can't be said of the bike. The front wheel is bent beyond resurrection and I think the back wheel might be too. Not sure about the frame. I think the front forks too most of the impact but they seem to be fine. I'm going to give them a close inspection when I get the bike home and possibly also get a second opinion. It's carbon fibre so I'm not sure exactly what I should be looking for.

The driver of the car was really nice. Went back into his driveway and then came rushing over to check I was OK. Really calm, really pleasant. Made several offers of his contact and insurance details. I declined, I already felt bad enough and assured him that I was the twat that caused the collision in the first place so wouldn't want to make any kind of claim.

Really pissed off with myself about this. I usually don't make this kind of mistake and had even carefully negotiated a couple of other tricky situations back up the road. Also, I can't count the number of times I've spotted someone doing something stupid, not looking when pulling out or pulling across in front of me and been the one avoiding the collision. The time I do something daft and I don't get a break. If I'd gotten away with a close shave, I would have learnt my lesson. Now I've learnt it and have to replace a lovely handbuilt wheelset.

  • Apologies if this is a re-post, couldn't find it on a search of the forum, so here ya goes ...

An online crash database , selectable by vehicle type, severity, year, area. No 2014 on there yet for some reason.

I had a look at the record for my last cycling prang when I was clobbered head on by a landrover turning in front of me, not much detail at all.

A bit disappointing really. Uninsured driver.

You get one free 'detail view credit', and what you see below is the detail (!) so use it wisely :-)

  • Yeah I'm THAT fast! Good spot, hadn't noticed that, hehe ...

  • id on bars? I have been looking for something quite narrow in the drops.

  • Make me an offer ...

  • ^^^^^ That'll buff out

  • Thought I'd drop a line to say that I had a near miss bike mugging in Denmark Hill at 7.30 pm last night (Friday). Five lads tried to jump me and then gave chase. Lucky that I'm faster than I look!

Happened at the flat bit at the top of Denmark Hill, heading south towards Herne Hill: google maps link

I was pootling home from work at about 15 kph, wearing street clothes (coat and jeans), on my road bike, which all might have made me more of a target (I'm also female). At first I thought they were just waiting to cross the road behind me, then when one of the guys lurched at me that they were drunk and playing silly buggers. Then he called his mate and they both started chasing. I managed to sprint away but it was fucking close at one point.

Fair play to the 101 service and the three officers who showed up to my house to take a statement, although even if they'd been able to find the little shits there wouldn't have been enough for an arrest. Unfortunately not able to give much identifiable information beyond age 15-20 years and wearing tracksuit type clothes, which pretty well sums up half of south London!

Cops said that there had been a few other incidents in that estate, so stay safe.

  • Had a little crash because of a van driver who cut my way when I was overtaking . I've got a gopro on my bike, Here is the video:

  • Jesus, hope you're not too sore, was he overtaking stationary traffic?

  • I'm not injured, just a little scratch on my knee. The bike is fine too.
yes, he stopped behind the traffic and suddenly decided to overtake.
