Been meaning to look for some gloves, how are they?

I have the standard all weather ones, and I've found they're ok for keeping out small to medium amounts water, but succumb to downpours, and aren't amazingly warm either. I was out last Sunday when it chucked it down all day, and they ended up a bit wet inside, which then cooled, and became a horrible freezing layer - not ideal for such expensive gloves. I went back to Cotswold Outdoors, and the guy explained that when they get completely saturated with water, there's simply nowhere for the moisture from your warm hands to go (the principle that something can't be 100% waterproof and breathable at the same time) so the heat condenses, gets your hands wet, and then makes it a bit dreary. Not sure if the cycling ones will be any different - might go in for an exchange if you find them any better!

They feel and fit pretty perfect, bought upon recommendation from Matt at the DH as they're what he wears.
My hands are generally warm all the time so I've gone for these as they're not spectacularly thick - they do a thicker deep winter kinda glove too if you're not so thermally blessed!

Ah yeah, see there are those of us that aren't so fortunate. Long arms = perenially cold hands, even in the office right now!
I'd imagine they'll be fine if you don't go out when it's freezing/pouring - and we all know Matt doesn't actually ride his bikes... ;)

Zing!
I have the deep winter ones from a few years ago. Very waterproof (rare for Sealskinz by all accounts) but not warm if you suffer circulation problems.

Haha! Ouch!
He rides his more than I ride mine...I'm gathering the right clothing to make riding more appealing!!
-
• #1383
Aha, I jest, I jest.
I do expect you to be there on Sunday though!
-
• #1384
I'll be there!!
-
• #1385
Bring your gloves, I think it's supposed to get chillier over the weekend.
-
• #1386
New jacket!!!
...and new overtrousers on the way, and overshoes...NOTHING can stop me commuting now!!
Only a matter of time before someone sees me in full "nodder" get up!
-
• #1387
...a matter of time before someone sees me
They'd be hard pressed not to.
-
• #1388
I figured better seen than squashed!

What overshoes did you get? Let us know how they perform in the wet, if they're anything like others they'll keep you dry for an extra 20 min. Need to look into something to keep my shoes dry.

They're the DhB ones, not worn them yet - it's not been wet enough and they make getting my shoes on / off a real faff!
Put those shallow drops you sold me onto the Caminada last night, fastest ride to work yet - they're so much better to ride than the Deda Pista Drops

Bought a second hand Flite to see what all the fuss was about ...
... it's nice.
-
• #1392
I've said it before...but that's such a pretty bike!
-
• #1393
Ah cheers man. It will probably be close to 'finished' in the spring when I get a nice silver wheelset, although no bike is ever truly complete!
-
• #1394
Mavic open pro with Dura Ace hubs by any chance??
-
• #1396
Not sure about the DA hubs - I'll see how flush I'm feeling! I also like knowing I can fit and forget something, and the thought of wrecking really expensive hubs just because I've neglected to re-pack the bearings is probably enough of a deterrent. Might just go the dirt cheap Formula/Novatec/On-One route.
-
• #1397
Yeah, the DA ones look lovely but that's a faff!
I had the Novatec ones and found them pretty damn smooth and the halo ones I have now are even nicer to ride
-
• #1398
I think it's a case of working out what I want from the wheels. They're start as nice summer wheels, which would lend themselves to blingy DA, but in reality they will probably end up staying on the bike full time, so I think they'll have to be sealed. I do like the idea of a threadless cog interface like on the Halos, but I could get both the Novatecs for the price of the rear Halo, and they're lighter too. Decisions, decisions.

• #1399
The less faff the better, go for Novatecs. flite looks great by the way!

Not sure if this is way too dull for "upgrades and new shit" but I've just got some new gloves!!
These ones http://www.wiggle.co.uk/sealskinz-all-weather-cycle-glove/?lang=en&curr=GBP&dest=1&utm_source=pla&utm_medium=base&utm_campaign=uk&utm_content=SealSkinz%20All%20Weather%20Cycle%20Glove%20-%20S%20Black%20%7C%20Winter%20Gloves&kpid=5360657264&sku=5360657264&ci_src=18615224&ci_sku=5360657264uk&utm_source=google&utm_term&utm_campaign=Sealskinz&utm_medium=base&utm_content=srlw5BMsH_dm%7Cpcrid%7C%7Cpkw%7C%7Cpmt%7C%7Cprd%7C5360657264uk&dest=1&curr=GBP
But got them from go outdoors as they're just down the road from work and will beat the price online by 10%...figured they were worth a shot for that price!!
