Feedback on Kickstarter project

  • Hello,

I am launching my kickstarter project Twentyeightco - Made in London bike apparel for the urban cyclist on 9th December and I was wondering if I could gain any supporters to sign up via http://www.twentyeightco.co.uk and to also check out my kickstarter project and hand over any feedback https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1225974274/679394973…

    thanks

  • For starters, your Kickstarter link doesn't work. And the social media links on your site go to the Wix social channels.

(one more thing, and this is personal opinion, but on your website I'd leave 'SIGN UP TO OUR EMAIL LIST FOR UPDATES' and get rid of the copy below, you don't need to tell people twice)

  • What is your USP? The photo on your website gives no indication of what you are trying to achieve, and the jeans look like they will get caught in the chain.

Given your competition includes vulpine, rapha, swrve et al you need to be doing something unique or special. Also a lot of UK fabrication is of pretty poor standard compared to the high end production from China, Turkey etc. When I worked at Rapha the range of jackets that were made in the UK were one of the most poorly made and pricey garments we sold!

  • What's your experience?

the current timeplan our aim is to deliver the rewards and the products as fast as we can.

Why should someone give you money for vague promises?

Your stuff looks nice enough, but you're asking strangers to give you money, where they have no protections vis. consumer or investment law.

  • It's all clothes/accessories that other people/brands do very, very well.

I don't know which part of the market share you're going to try and take but everything just looks cheap and ill fitting. I think it needs a LOT more R&D work before it's ready for Kickstarter.

  • I don't get what makes them cycling specific or cycling innovations. The jersey looks like a running tshirt a size larger, the jeans are baggy in the ankles so will make love to my chain unless I want to wear them turn up style like you have in a pic which begs the question why not buy a more suitable style jeans?

Good luck but I'm guessing it's more style over function which doesn't work for me.

  • For 'slainin' innit?

  • tough arena to sell in . rapha got it cleaned up all the rest struggle to survive i reckon !

  • Read a comment the other day.

"Women Rapha wear looks like primary school clothing."

So as everybody seams to be doin black/blue/grey maybe burgundy minimalism, why not do big bold prints?

As others have said, find a USP.

  • Because it's meant to look casual? As soon as you go off the wall, it enters lycra lout/FKW territory.

  • First of all, respect to you for doing it.
Way better to start and get out there than just think about it and be a sceptic like me.

The clothing looks like normal streetwear, made from materials that are a bit different.
I am not sure about the fit and the cycling specific benefits to be honest.
If you want to get a share of the jeans and tshirt market, your product will have to be either more interesting and innovative.
Or you create an image that makes you more desirable than your competition. USP, as others already said.

The whole campaign, to me, is far away from feeling professional enough to raise 21k, but I hope you manage to prove me wrong.
Do you have a business plan that shows how you intend to make it work?

    But on the other hand:

The backpack is very beautiful, and looks well made, it is a product that could go far.
It also doesn't necessarily need the bicycle speak, especially as it is not cycling specific. There are a lot of reasons (no sizes, for example) that make it your strongest product to get started. But you intend to get at it after all the other stuff that is more generic, less interesting/more difficult to get retail connections and/or make online sales work as a new brand.

Sorry about all the negativity. Do that backpack, make a 13inch laptop fit, and tell me where I can buy one!

  • Thanks for the feedback all, it is really appreciated. The leather backpack is large enough to fit a helmet and more so a 13" shouldn't be a problem. Also the backpack was one of my creations so ya can't buy it anywhere

  • If you're looking for an under-represented market with money to spend, you should be making women's wear.
