They use animal totems instead of numbers.. Speed Wombat :)

It's on road. http://www.transambikerace.com/
Same ethos as Tour Divide and other bikepacking/ITT races. No support, etc etc. Kansas looks fucking boring, 200 mile straight road with a dusty headwind.

The missus would appreciate that. I keep 'joking' to her about RAAM and she keeps saying "you're doing it yourself". It's not like I'm a hard task master or anything :) Unsupported would be loads cheaper too.
200 mile straight road with a dusty headwind
Sounds like where I grew up

@gabes When do we see pictures of the bike?
-
• #56
When I get it! It's in the jig in Moscow right now, and I'm trying to scratch together the money for the rest of the parts. Should have it built by end of Jan, apart from new wheels (King rear, Dynamo front on carbon rims) which will come later.
here it is about 10 days ago...

At least it will be very light in that configuration and saddle sores will no longer be an issue. Your prostate might complain though. ;)

Already looks good!

The lengths some people will go to to justify a new bike...

Another Triton, gabes?
-
• #61
Yeah, 3rd! It's Ti, it's amazingly well made, and I can get it exactly as I want. I did the bike fit course at Bicycle Academy with Tony Corke (torke systems), and we designed the frame there and then, sent it all off to Dmitry, tweaked bits and pieces. I just need to sort some parts. Whiskey Carbon fork, new wheels, shorter middleburn cranks (170s), xtr mech, mechanical brakes (TRP Spyke) and paul levers. And I've emailed charlie the bikemonger about Jones H loops bars in CARBON! damn! not gonna be cheap.

not gonna be cheap.
Sounds awesome though. Dmitry was really helpful when I was considering a Ti frame and they seem to be busier than ever, going by the MTBR thread.

450k / day for 15 days...

forrunnn!

• #65
And? I know this guy, he's an awesome framebuilder, and he's sponsoring me. Full custom UK Ti would be how much?
-
• #66
I should have been clearer!
The picture is very forrun. What with all the script, even the filter etc. :)

• #67
Yeah, sorry no England flags.

You should use cyrillic for any decals
-
• #69
Yeah, thought about it, he does the logo by masking out and bead-blasting (when the frame has been polished) of vice-versa if it's a bead blasted frame, the logo is polished. He also offers it in Roman or Cyrillic text. I think Cyrillic this time.

of of course it's Ti. I forgot :)

What date does the Tour Divide start on? Is it June 13, 2015? I can't find it online.
-
• #72
The Divide must be one of the best things you can do about the bike. It's something I've dreamed about since first finding out about and while it's obviously silly difficult I never questioned whether or not I'd be capable of doing it, rather I accepted that the cost/logistics/family life would keep it a dream.
Then the other day I read Heather Dawe's book, Adventure in Mind. Now I'm thinking that maybe it's a lot harder than I'd given it credit for.

Been reading a lot about this lately and also the Pacific Crest Trail (mainly thanks to the Wild film). The size & scale is immense.
@gabes - you are quite mad for doing this. Will you be using a spot tracker so we can follow you?
