@Dammit I'll rent the ovlov for a year for £500....
But seriously, I have finally swapped my Australian licence for a UK one. Got me thinking about maybe getting a car. I'm always renting or using zip car but it limits last minute weekend trips. Since this could be my last year in the UK figure get a car and see lots.
So, is it possible to buy a decent enough car for £1000 including mot and insurance products for a year?
Would like it to fit 2 people and 2 bikes.>
My insurance is ~£400/year, MOT obviously depends, but if you buy a car that has just passed it's test you probably don't have to worry about that.
My car drinks ~£80 of petrol every 400 miles or so, if it's mainly motorway, that can drop to 200 miles if it's stop-start city/back roads.
VED for a year is going to be £220 ish, so that with insurance and you've only got ~£300 or so for the car out of your £1,000.
You might be better off sticking to renting them, although how much do you think you've spent doing that over the past 12 months?

I need that Volvo in my life, but don't think I can have two Volvo estates.

Unfortunately not. From http://www.benedictredgrove.com/

Hmm, thanks for this Dammit - I genuinely have no idea about the costs of ownership in the UK - I will research.
I was thinking £1500-2000 being a realistic TCO. So maybe doable.
I don't spend nearly that on rental, although last year I spent around 350 on zipcar including annual fee and about 500 on normal rentals.
But having a car ready to go is quite appealing.
something like (just because I know pugs well)

Noice. But you wouldn't catch me in a 71, they'd got ugly at the back by then. Boat tail or gtfo.

Yeah, the back is a little blocky. He's done a very good restoration job though. Looking forward to taking it for a spin before it's sold

I dunno those early Kamm tails are still pretty to me. The rubber bumper model killed it. -

Jon Hunt is one of the biggest arseholes to have ever walked the earth. Eamonn Holmes and James Martin are probably the only two people I detest more.

You would be a bit put out if it caught fire after service/repair.
Unless his son was over revving in standing traffic.
Highly likely.

Some?
In other news, MX5 will be ready to pick up on Saturday.

Apparently, not revving a Miura enough can cause intake-side ignition, mitigated by revving the engine to suck it all through before it catches.

Get ready to spend some money.
Yes, it's hugely overpriced I think, unless the Manuel's are so rare that the presence of the transmission alone justifies the money.
You can get running cars in good order for less.

When you buy a second hand car, how cheeky have you been trying to bid some money off the seller? Going to look at something on Sat and wondering how cheeky I can be. The car's in good nick so there's no real bargaining chip other than the fact it's a p/x at a dealership and they probably want rid of it

Be really picky, its coming up to christmas so see how long he can hold out for.
In irrelevant news the newer avenger no longer has engine warning lights lit up. Was due to faulty soldering/wiring/chip in the ECU. Not any of the sensors or wiring. So once a replacement ECU is sorted it will be for sale.
A further deluge of Porker shots
