Were both addressed in my opening salvo
Stainless steel is lighter than brass, the slower cutting might push the cost up in spite of the cheaper material, but we'd be talking less than a pound for a wheelset if somebody set up to make stainless nipples on the same scale as brass ones are currently manufactured.

It does not seem to affect the spokes though. Really this was a silly comment as if thos the nipple and spokes are the same grade of steel 18/8 inox then there would be no electroyic corroison so I take it back. I have no idea why stainless nipples are not used. I'll have to find out.
