RIP Ashad.
I live just off Cavell street and there are always people racing around, even down my street which is very narrow, idiots still feel the need to drive at ridiculous speeds.

I work just off Cavell Street and saw the flowers but didn't know what had happened. I am totally sickened by this awful news.

young guys racing along / around whitechapel road is extremely common.
really hope improved policing comes out of this.
rip you quality bloke. -

Oh man, just came here to post some good news and saw the black logo. Such a kick in the guts and words cannot express the sadness and frustration that some poor little kid won't know his dad because of some idiot. RIP

RIP Ashad.
Young guys often uninsured and without licenses often drive like idiots racing or incredibly fast around the streets in the mile end/ Stepney/Bethnal Green area. There needs to be a greater police presence at night and in the evenings when this happens to ensure that this type of behavior which leads to loss of life is stopped. I hope they catch and punish all who are involved! -

That would be an idea, but then who would catch all the cyclists jumping red lights at Regents Park or in Islington?

The arrest story mentions someone being bailed and I know innocent until proven guilty and all so it will be ages before the trial is over but does that mean the guy arrested is now potentially driving around?

The family of a cyclist who was left to die after being hit by a speeding driver today criticised the “inhuman” killer, who smiled in the dock as a judge jailed him for four years.

Banned for 5 years after a jail sentence of 4? He'll serve 2 I suppose.

Does anything warrant a lifetime ban from driving?

Guidance on the length of the disqualification was given by the Court of Appeal in Re Sevenoaks Stationers (Retail) Ltd [1991] Ch 164 as follows:
10 years and above for particularly serious cases, such as where a second period of disqualification is appropriate or there is widespread fraud; -

Disgusting

I was so angry when I read that sentence. It is just such a pisstake. If you are going over twice the speed limit around here you will kill or hurt people. The streets are tiny and yet all I hear out my window is revving cars and people speeding along. There is no excuse. Should crush their cars like they do in Oz.

Banned for 5 years after a jail sentence of 4?
Has the law changed? Last time I looked, he would effectively be banned for 1 year after a jail sentence of 4, or...
He'll serve 2
banned for 3 years, in that case.
I may well be out of date in my limited knowledge of the law, of course.

^This is what I was getting at but stating poorly.
He won't even get 14 years. he'll be out and about in under 7 no doubt. Most likely 5
