Why would there be jars attached to the underside of my living room floor boards?

are they readily reachable?

jars with their lids screwed to the underside of something is a recognised way of storing small quantities of useful things like nails and screws.

Readily reachable and above a worktop in the cellar but there are cupboards underneath the worktop and straight in front of you if you were stood beneath the jars.

But I suppose perhaps the jars may have been there longer than the cupboards and work tops.
