So people can learn one thing but not another?

Look @skydancer,
Just face it. Cycle training is dumb, and covering your brakes while riding is a stupid thing to do. It takes a fraction of a second to change hand position and actuate a brake lever, just as it takes a fraction of a second to drop a mobile phone and grab a steering wheel.
You're a dumb stupid.

I think debate is healthy. We teach want we consider to be best practice. People can choose if they wish to follow it.

Really need to get rid of that reflex, same as when driving, Seen a few where the panic braking has bent brake pedals.

Tenuous link to bad drivers makes you sound like a right tit. As you were.
-
• #32759
I'd be genuinely surprised if any significant percentage of actual cyclists went about covering their brakes the whole time. I never have.

Taking satire seriously makes you sound like srs bzns

Which brake do you use in an emergency stop?

I've only got a leg brake

Factors affecting higher-order movement planning: a kinematic analysis of human prehension
LS Jakobson, MA Goodale - Experimental Brain Research, 1991 - Springer -

Ah, Jakobson and Goodale. They work on the relationship between mental perception of objects and the dual kinematic responses of the hand a limb, I believe? Great read, lovely work, but irrelevant.
(Actually not sure if srs).

Bloke wandering about with gun in US public space....not shot! Cops appear to...do cop work...they talk down the situation to a peaceful ending.

Cops shoot a 12 yr old child that pulled a replica gun. The pistol wasn't aimed at anyone before he was shot dead.

I'm pretty sure that nothing mentioned on this topic has been srs

Back to Emily Thornberry, I think it's total bullshit that she's had to resign.
People learn not to clutch at their brakes if they are covering them. But if they don't cover their brakes they tend to grab the bars and then need to release before they can pull their brakes. In an emergency this can be a significant delay in their ability to stop quickly.
